Default R&R Outside Mirror

Grandson was able, while backing up and tuning his Ipod, to remove drivers side power mirror on a garbage tote (did a nice job, very clean). Dad is in military and presently gone so I am the current responsible party (?). I have a new mirror ordered and assume that I must remove the interior sail panel to access the retaining screws and release the remnants of the old mirror. My question is, does that sail panel just pull straight off along with the function knob, and also does the new mirror usually come with the electrical lead, or do I have to pop the mirror glass to access the motor and reconnect the electrical harness. All responses greatfully accepted.
