Default Do tunes need to be re-loaded often?

Ok, I have a Diablosport tuner, and I have changed the tunes periodically to test out which tune works the best, and which one I like the most, and it seems that if I drive a tune for a few weeks, it looses some of its original "pep" and then if I re-load it, it has more again. Is this due to the computer "adapting" to my driving habbits? If I want that instant throttle responce and super firm shifting, it seems like i have to re-load the tune every month or so to keep things like the first time I loaded it. Am I crazy, or has anyones else noticed this phenominon? I re-loaded the same tune today (93 octane firm shift) at lunchtime at my work, and the car seems like a totally different car now, even though I had the same tune allready. I mean it has a different sound in the exhaust, a different throttle responce, and shifts firmmer again. The last time I loaded the tune was several months ago, but I had noticed a decrease in the inital "pep" as soon as two to three weeks after the first load. Can this be a placebo that I am missinterpreting, or is the car actually "decreasing" its own performance over time due the majority of my driving being freeway miles?

Your car is just messing with you. No, haha, that makes sense because the transmission does have an adaptive strategy. The same think happens when the battery is disconnected. The computer has to re-learn the optimal shift points. With the tune, apparently it still keeps the main parts of the tune. I have mine tuned and it still has high shift points at WOT and is still shifts pretty firm. I have only tuned mine a couple times but yea I think it does seem like it's not as aggressive. When you re-tune yours, it probably does clear out the memory (just like when the battery is disconnected) and the engine runs a little different because it has to adjust the tune still.

An interesting test might be to do a few 1320's with a 3 month old tune then reflash it and see what the results are!! Next spring I might try that just to prove my hypothesis. (of couse that is..... only until I install the Vortech)

I don't think that re-tuning resets your PCM so it shouldn't really be making a difference. If you disconnect your negative battery terminal for 45 minutes and then hook it back up your computer will be reset and will have to 'learn' all over again.

So my guess is that re-tuning is just mojo.

Reflashing the tune does reset the adaptive learning function of the PCM.
