Default 2005 transmisson oil question

my v6 is almost at 30,000 miles and i've read on other post and my dealer told me that for the automatic trans it should be changed at 30. so i call around an the dealer wants 200-250$ for a change and this little small service station down my street said they do it for 170. but my question is they told me i shouldnt have to change it till 60,000 being the trans oil is synthetic and such. should i wait another 30 and chance it or being that the car still has warranty on it take the greedy dealers advice an change it. im really cautious when it comes to my car so im thinking of jus getting it changed cause it cant hurt anything. what do you guys think

p.s my new hood should be arriving soon!!!

I had mine changed at the dealer at 30,000 miles. They charged me $125. Both the numbers you were quoted are way higher than they should be.

Contact another dealer, the dealer you talked to is way-out-of-line on their price.

ive called the nearest ford dealer and they quoted 200-250 the dealer i bought the car from which is a pretty small town like 30 miles away said like 170 but the service station said like 160 for a fluid flush or they would change out the filter also for 170. and so is 30,000 the number yall agree to

There is no need to replace the fluid at 30k. The service schedule calls for replacing at 60k intervals.

I work at a Ford dealership...Ford does reccomend Trans. flushes every 30k miles, but only for trans' that have dipsticks.. the 4.0 has a sealed trans therefore its much less likely for contaminates to enter the trans unless something internally has failed...Look in your owners manual to be sure...it gives you maintainance schedules

Talking 2005 transmission oil question

My son in law is a sae certified mechanic, and he recommends that at 30k miles that the trans.fluid wheather auto.or standard be changed, and also the rear differential. If you do a trans flush be sure to change the filter. Its a small prilce to pay to prevent the trans. from failing.

The rear differential should be changed at 30k miles but not many people do it. I for one will do it at about 40k miles. Check your owners manuel for the right oil.

stl is correct. Synthetic mercon v should be changed at 60k intervals. Trans flushes in these sealed 5r55e's too frequently can lead to premature tranny failure later on down the road.
