Hey everyone, I'm not very clear on which way i should tune my vehicle. I was looking at SCT tuners and I'm not sure whether i need a custom tuning xcal or one with preloaded tunes.
I have minor modifications, an airaid cold air intake, and a borla axleback muffler. I plan on putting on underdrive pulleys and an alluminum drive shaft in the near future, and an 8.8 rear end with 3.73's and t lok in a few more months.
I want to set my car to run on 93 octane and get at least one tune to increase my performance.
Should i buy a tuner with preloaded tunes or custom? Whichever one i pick, what do i need to do from the time i place my order to physically retune my car's computer.
you should check out bamachips.com and look at there combos. I have the xcal3 c&l intake combo. got it fro 650$ with 3 tunes. I run the 93 race all the time now.

A custom tune will get you far more power than a pre-loaded or "canned" tune from SCT. Bamachips and Brenspeed are top ranked tuners for the s197 mustang and both do a great job although Bama's tunes tend to run a little on the rich side.

Ok thanks guys, I guess I'll be going with a custom tune. But mroe importantly, can anyone tell me how to actually tune my car? What is the procedure to actually download the tune and upload it to my car etc...

OK back to topic, as you mentioned you have a Air raid CAI so you dont need the combo. Just buy the tuner from Bamachips and your mods info, he will send you a tune made for your application and it would be 10x better than pre-loaded tune. From the time you place your order till you put in the car, you just have to plan a goodbye party to your previous tune because you will have a different car and countdown till the day your tuner arrive

yes, theres an option for that on the Bamachips website. he will email you the tune and there is a program available from the SCT website you can use to load the tune onto your X3
you can get a combo deal, jlt cai,sctx3 and 3 custom tunes for 500.00 from tillman speed, ask for chris rose. that cai would be better than what you have, and its a great price. or, if you order a sctfs,(379.00) it will come with canned tunes, and custon email tunes can be added. or the sctx3 from tillman will come with custom tunes on it, for what you have now for mods, and can be changed as you add mods or if your sure your gonna change something, he can write for that too. you can add email tunes at any time to the sctx3 also if you wanted to try a bama tune. just make sure you allways get a copy of the tunes on the tuner emailed to you so you`ll have them to put back on the tuner if your need them. there is nothing you can do to your tune in the meanwhile.( you can do spark plugs and wires,coil) everything is done by the computer
