The V6 S197 does not come with a limited slip differential.

I have only had the car about 24 hours so forgive my ignorance, but how do I identify if its a S197 ? Also can I put a limited slip in it without it causing a problem with the traction control syst? and what model of car can I get one out of ?

Thanks

Sorry... The S197 is the nomenclature for the 2005+ Mustang. Only the GT comes stock with a limited slip. You can add a Traction Lok carrier to your 7.5" rear for about $400. Has no bearing on the TCS system.

Wow, I am suprised, My dads may have been modified by the previous owner, however, I rented one in vegas and it also possied. I cant remember if it was a V6 or a GT it has been quite a while ago.

Is the housing the same in a GT ? maybe I could find a wrecked one and get the diff out of it for less money.

They are not the same. The V6 has a 7.5" rear. The GT is an 8.8". You could get a GT takeoff assembly and swap the entire thing out for about a grand.

I might try to go that route latter down the road.

What kind of power can a guy get out of the 4.0 without spending thousands?

maybe on CL or Ebay you have, but I am sure that was only for a stock 3.31 ratio rear end, but the cheapest I have seen them on any site selling "gt takeoffs" like newtakeoffs.com, is in the 500 range for the 3.31 and 1000 for the 4.10's, If you find a 4.10 or 3.73 posi gt rear end for $350, please call me on my cell imedatley I want to buy it for that kind of price. Do you have one like that for sale? I want it.
