Question 4.10 Gears Questions

I drive an automatic 2007 mustang v6 with an airaid intake and a borla single exhaust. This is my daily driver but I'd love the feeling of getting sucked back into my seat. can the 4.10's accomplish this?

1. I've heard it costs around 250 for the install, true?

2. I was considering swapping out the rearend for an 8.8 but that extra money is going to take longer to find. Will I be ok installing 4.10's and T-lok on my stock rear end?

3. Will 4.10's significantly improve my 0-60?

If theres anything else you have to say or reccomend about this upgrade let me know.
Thanks a lot everyone

yes but at the cost of gas i was hell bent till i did some calculations. go with 3.73's

pm me and ill send u my chart of rpm and speed and what gear your in and it will tell u what your getting out of 3.31 3.73 4.10

basicly at 2000 RPM (highway speed) in 5th gear
3.31 67.43 MPH
3.73 59.84
4.10 54.44

this is a rear gear X transmission gear (mine is 0.72 final drive in to 2.568) with a 27 inch tire

as u can see speed is way less for the rpm

I think you're a little on the low side for an install. I would plan on $450-$500..

3.73 will do the trick without destroying your cars ability to cruise comfortably on the highway.

I paid $500 for my install including the gears (a used OEM Ford set provided by the installer) but excluding the FRPP tlock and a master bearing kit.

How much highway driving do you do? If you are on the highway often, I would definitely say go the with the 3.73's. If you are like me and do almost no highway driving, go with the 4.10's, you will feel it in your seat more. And I would also guess the install will be more than $250. I talked to a couple shops around town, and they all estimated between $350-$500, for the gears and the differential.

If you are planning on installing a nitrous, super, turbo, etc., it would probably make more sense financially to install the whole new rear end. If not, the stock rear end will serve just fine...

4.10s aren't that much worse on the highway.

I've had my 4:10s for over 2 years without any problems. For an automatic 4:10s are perfect. If you had a standard tranny then I'd say go with 3:73. With your auto and the overdrive gas mileage won't suffer very much and what little you lose is more than gratifying with a much improved 0 - 60 time. If you have not done so already, try to budget for a tuner as this will improve performance even more and will allow you to dial in the new gear ratio to the car's computer. Otherwise your speedometer will be off.
