Default Replacing brake pads.

I have to change my rear brake pads and I looked it up in the manual. It says I have to replace a couple of bolts too and some springs.
I think the new pads I got came with the new springs.
Has anyone ever replaced pads without replacing these bolts?
Is there anything (not mentioned in the book) about doing this that I should know before starting?

i replaced my back pads. i bought the best ones oreilly had and they didnt come with the clips, which should be changed with the pads. they normaly have the clips, but were on backorder for ever. i didnt replace any bolts. you might get lucky, but i didnt as far as turning the piston in. if you were real lucky you could use a pair of needle nose pliars to turn the piston clockwise as you push in. that didnt work for me. next i bought the " cube" $10.00 ( knuckle buster) that has diferent bumps on it to fit the pistons, put a 3/8 ratchet on it and push and turn. if you can put a bolt in it to hold the caliper while you push and turn you might get lucky. that didnt work for me either. so then i bought a caliper brake tool set for $20.00 from harbor freight. works like a reverse puller, turns and pushes and worked great with no effort. i wish i would have just bought that kit from the start.

oh ya,first thing you should do is clean that piston area. also, you can crack the bleeder loose while you are pushing and turning and that might help. i did that too. once you get it back together, work the e brake handle a bunch of times too.

makes sure youdont take off till you have your brake pressure back. pump it till it comes back, dont put it in reverse or drive and take off with no brake pressure. bad idea

What lube is it that comes with the pads? I didn't get any lube.
I finished Sunday night and have already pumped the brakes and driven probably 60 miles by now. The brakes work great, but the parking brake cable on the passenger side just happened to brake when I was parking into position to do the work on the brakes.
$57.00 at the dealer, I just have to find time to go order it.

most often pads will come with a little packet of some sort of grease or gel that you put a small amount on all the metal surfaces that move, slide, or rub. helps to keep the pads from squeeking

I bought the whole set for $55. Came in a fancy red plastic case. Now, I can do pretty much any caliper that needs this tool.

Hey amustangrocks,
You have the screamin demon coil and live wires?
How does it do for you? I thought about getting that.
Is it easy to put in and does it need any tuning?

wow you must have bought the king dady brake set. the one i got was 21.00. but then i still have the 10.00 knuckle buster( for sale cheap!!),lol. ya, most auto parts do have service kits you can borrow with a deposit, but i would just as soon have the tool. changing the coil and wires is real easy. i was gonna change my wires anyway, so i thought i`d give the demon a shot at the same time. 4 screws on top for the coil. getting the wires with the covers on them into the seperator clips was a challenge but they squezzed in. i had heard about the coil long before i had the stang. as far as i know, it doesnt need tuning in itself. but i figured it would fit nice into the scheme of things once i get it all together( cai/tune/exaust) my car runs great and i think it gave it a little more spunk, and a little more pull, but nothing huge. with the cai and custom tune though, it might be huge, and figured into the tune when i get it.

O ya. That looks good. As soon as I can fit it into the budget, I might get that same set up. I just paid $61 for a parking brake cable. Not very exciting, but things come up.
