I'm looking to upgrade my V6 performance wise. I'm looking to upgrade my car more for a hobby, to make it my custom car so I'm looking for all the things I can do to get maximum horsepower out of the 4.0L 2008 V6 Mustang engine. I'm not looking for a bunch of people to tell me that I should buy a new mustang, i'm looking for acutal ideas. I have been thinking about Ford Racing Power Upgrade Kit, Ford Racing Handling Pack, and a V6 Shaker system from classic design concepts. Any other ideas?
IMHO, the best bang for your buck, performance-wise, is a good tuner/CAI combo and a new set of gears. You can also put on a good axle back exhaust, it frees up some hp from the stock exhaust, plus it'll give your sixer a nice, mean growl.
I don't think you'll have to worry about much v6 bashing on this site. While there are a few occasionally gt supremists, most respect how much potential the 4.0's have...
Do you have any mods in now, or is she stock?

I have put a K&N Typhoon cold air intake and I bought a turner. i also forgot to mention that I have an automatic transmission. I plan on changing it to a manual later. However, I've been also looking throttle body spacers, does you if a certain type is better than the other?

welcome to the site. sounds like you got some great ideas allready. theres really no end to how much money you can spend...hey now i`m a poet. we like our v6`s. most of the gt guys here lurk around the v6 tech forums and throw in help and great ideas.( ok, maybe just some)

I have heard mixed reviews about throttle body spacers. Some people notice a performance increase, while others have said it was a complete waste of money. If you do decide to get one, I have heard the best things about the BBK throttle body spacer...
Who did you purchase your tuner from? Did you get some custom tunes?

not trying to hi-jack your thread at all but you mentioned the shaker system, i just want to know, is that really a ram air intake? or is it for looks only
if you want to spend 5+ thousand on this then the best way to go by far is forced injection. Either turbo it or super charge it. POwerhouse411 and Vortech are pretty popular turbos and s/c if you need somewhere to start. If you do this most people would reccomend you buy an 8.8 rear end with 3.73 gears and t lok. You should also use an aluminum driveshaft to support that kind of force. If you go this route you should also upgrade your exhaust. The exhaust system I've been craving since i bought my car is the borla dual exhaust... but it runs about 1200 bucks + shipping. Theres plenty of good names out there for exhaust so look around. Sound is subjective.
If your planning on spending a lot less theres plenty of other things you can do. You've got the CAI and tuner. The next step i would take would be to get an axleback muffler. On average they range from like 200 dollars to 300 and can add up to 10 hp over the very restrictive stock muffler...and your sixer will sound a whole lot better. Those are the two first steps you shoudl take. The next few things require more time and money but pay back greatly for a hobby racing car. Get yourself a set of either 3.73 gears or 4.10 gears and t lok and have them installed on your rear end. This install will cost you about 400 bucks. Long story short 3.73 gears = more acceleration but a slightly less mpg. 4.10 gears = much more acceleeration but you loose a little more mpg. gears are liek 150 - 200 and t lok is around 200. If you do gears and t lok i would highly reccomend buying an aftermarket drive shaft. This will run you 600 dollars but you need it because if you dont change it you could expirience driveshaft failure over 100 mph. <-- BAD
Hey guys, okay, I'm using my 09 mustang as my fire response vehicle. I'm looking for some tips on what a good tuner/cai/exhaust would be. I'd like to get another twenty to fifty horse out of the car.
The CAI/tune is a great start. Bamachips, Brenspeed, Tillman offer custom tunes along with their combo which will really help. Bolra, flowmaster, Magnaflow, ect. all offer good aftermarket exhaust with nearly identical power gains. Gt takeoffs are a good bit cheaper, and help with the power as well. A new throttlebody is another bolt on. Ive heard that a spacer wont do anything, but I've never tried it. The shaker hood is a true ram air system that brings air straight to the air box. It is not meant to offer power upgrades, but it can bring in a bit more air and cut a couple tenths of seconds off of the 1/4. Gears and Tlok also are a nice upgrade as they help get the power to the ground. An aluminum driveshaft is a must for high speed driving as the stock shaft is known to fail above 120. Don't plan on switching to a manual, its a long and expensive process and the automatic is a well built system, and with the tuner the shift points can be just right.

adding to it everyday
tb spacer is a waste of $ unless youre s/c, then you might see gains. top hp upgrades below adding a s/c or t/c, and besides your tuner and intake, exhaust(i went with the borla axleback, sounds amazing, no better quality than borla) tillman, bama race, tq tunes depending on your preference, 3.73 - 4.10 gears(3.55's arent enough bang for your buck), t-loc, and even an 8.8 take off with the gears and t loc already installed. also an aluminum drive shaft deletes a lot of weight and is a lot stronger. then comes the turbo and supercharger forced induction systems, a whole new ball game. also dont be so quick to turn out the automatic. perfect shift every time, never miss a shift, and you dont lose as much boost when it shifts. get a good tune, youll change your mind.

Exhaust (I went dual but you can leave it single and still get better sound but make sure you get flowmasters)
Cold Air Intake (I've heard BBK is best)
Tuning Chip (SCT or Diablo)
Headers (BBK long tubes are best)
Underdrive pulley
Throttle Body
Forced Induction
Supercharger (Vortec makes one for the V6 mustang)
okay, I was looking at a diablo or a sct live wire tuner. Any comments on these?
My friend has an '02 V6 Mustang and he did like a months worth of research about the two before deciding that SCT was the better of the two. I haven't done as extensive research as him but I got my feet wet and drew the same conclusion.
