Default 2006 Mustang V6 Automatic Gets Stuck In Neutral

Hey, I've got a friend with a 2006 Mustang V6 with an automatic, and just recently was trying to shift into park and the plastic piece around the shifter popped out up and forward preventing her from getting into park. Anyone had this problem or seen it? If there's an easy fix I'll do it but otherwise it's under warranty and she'll just take it to the dealers.

the plastic piece meaning the tiny little piece on the right or the entire plastic surrounding?

Im not sure how but the tiny plastic piece to the right overrides the automatics lock out. Hopefully someone else will chime in

hi welcome to the forums. i just looked at mine and i cant imagine that plastic cover popping out of the console. maybe someone else has had the problem though. can you just pop it back in maybe by moving the shifter into low position? and move the shifter?

My dad's Ford Fivehundred had a similar problem. That black plastic would stick and wouldn't let you shift. I just held down the button and jiggled it for a while till it would work. If it's under warranty just run it up to Ford and they'll fix it no questions asked.

to fix that you'll probably need to take off the entire center console. If you want to do it yourself the screws are in the center console arm rest thing. If I were you I'd just ask the dealership to do it for you.
