Default What does it take to install 4.10s

Hello. I post alot because i am curious and like to grow my knowledge of cars. So i might be putting new gears into my car, 08 v6. I like the rear ends from new takeoff but currently i don't plan on going too high on horsepower. Originally i was thinking turbo but i am reconsidering now. So if i wanted to put a t lok and 4.10 gears in my car with the stock 7.5 rear end what parts exactly would i need. I have no idea.

Ford Racing 7.5" 28 Spline Traction - LOK Limited Slip Differential at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

4.10 Gears for 7.5 Rear end at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

You can also get the bearing kit, its recommended for cars with over 60K miles. Those parts should do it for you, just make sure an experienced shop installs them...

when the time comes i`ll install mine myself. get a good manual, and its nice to have someone to ask questions too also. but for now, at the top of this forum select " new tech links" by stlwagon, then select it again when that opens. about 7 posts down there is a great example by a guy, step by step to install 410`s( in a 8.8 but it will give you a good idea) it was posted by kyle and says 10-gears for the link with pics all the way through the install. he was not a pro either. a few guys that have done this a bunch said about 6 hr job. chek it out

Spend the money to get them installed professionally.

Best case scenario if you install them yourself; you get gears that work fine but whine like a SOB.

Worst case scenario if you install them yourself; you ruin the gear set, the new differential and possibly your pumpkin.

i plan on having them pro installed. I just wanted to know what i needed. I was going to get the new bearing kit. I read somewhere that you have to buy a new differential cover or something because the gears won't fit in the stock one. Is that true?

You'll need a master bearing install kit, ring and pinion, 85W-140 fluid, 4 oz friction modifier and the T-lok.

+1... Gears are not a good DIY job. It's really an art!

Not saying you can't.

My post was directed at the OP, being that he was asking what parts he needed I assumed he wasn't skilled at gear installation.

make sure you want the 4:10s before you get them too, itll make your car faster, but if its a daily driver you might not want it at constant speeds above 55. 3:73s are the median, but its your choice. good luck too, and let us know what you think when you get them

do you have to get a new differential cover? And does anyone who has put forced induction have 4.10s? Are they too much with forced induction?

A new cover is not required.
