Default 3.73 Gears WITHOUT T-LOK

Hi everyone, i drive a 2007 mustang v6 auto coupe.

Right now i'm building up my car mostly as a hobby. I do not regularly drag race, and since I'm auto, do not launch. I have an airaid CAI, a borla axleback muffler, and plan to have an xcal3 from bamachips by the end of the month.

Basically my question is: Will I be ok installing 3.73 gears without t-lok?
Will i still get O.K. traction off the line or in rainy conditions?

I do not plan on going forced injection, and if for some reason i change my mind, it would not be for at least 2 years but i would like to plan ahead just incase. For that reason i have decided on 3.73's instead of 4.10's so that my car will not rev up too fast once turboed or supered. Currently i plan on swapping gears without putting on t lok. When i go turbo or super i will either add t lok or buy an entire new 8.8. the reason i am not doing this all at once is because money isn't coming in too fast.

My second question is: What price could i expect for the installation of just gears based on the fact that the installation of gears and t-lok would cost 375?

Thank you all very much. My one request is that this thread does not turn into a 4.10 vs 3.73 war or a "You should do it all at once" discussion because as of right now that is not an option.

JOE

It would be in your best interest to get the t-lok.
the gear diff. will be open you might as well do it all at the same time. It will be cheaper to do it once then to go back in there.
I know you said I dont want the "all at once".
But like it or not it is the most logic route if your looking to spend the less amount of money..

If you are going turbo, I would say just put it the whole 8.8 right now. But to answer your question, I would highly recommend getting the t-lok with the gears. I know even with the stock gears, its tough to get traction in the rain with the open differential. I'd say do them both at the same time.

To answer your second question, I would guess around 250-275 for install of just the gears. That is completely a guess though...

Get the T-LOK at the same time.

Going to 3.73 will transfer more torque to the rear "wheel".

I kept the stock 3.31s since I do LOTS of highway driving (just hit 120,000 miles today) and the T-LOK is a "Must Have" for me.

Bad weather; sand, MUD (we have 5 seasons in VT), water, snow, whatever... 2 wheels are always better (I've heard some people disagree)...

Even with the stock tune, I can pull out into rush-hour traffic and know I'm NOT gonna just sit and spin my tire, she hooks up and launches!

Also, fun doing the "mud bogging" thing up my hill in the spring! (think Duke's of Hazzard in the mud)

LOL

The price is going to be about the same for just the gears...

+1

It's the shop time that's going to kill ya if you go back in the rear end a second time.
