I AM a little curious as to HOW you lost your drive shaft, but anyway...
I got my alum DS from Shaftmasters on Ebay for $475 shipped. That's an excellant price and a good high quality shaft.
The people there were very good to deal with.
If you research and price other DS for this generation Mustang, you'll find prices at the minimum of $600 to over $800.
No, older models will not work on these cars because of the length and there's no spline on these newer ones.

I am ALSO interested in how that happened. Also, how much lighter are aluminum drive shafts? how much weight am I going to take off my car if I get that? I know its a popular choice and it will increase the top speed of your car (not really something I need), just curious as to what the weight difference is.

Ok i'll post the story of how i lost my Ds

1 year ago i installed a custom stc tune from a site

and i was testing the no speed limit thing
and i was driving above the top speed 200k/h
and the rpm still increasing
until i hear an explosion
i thought that it was a tire
i removed my leg from the pedal and grapped the steering wheel with all my power
after the car stoped
the car was dead
and after a visit to the work shop
they told me that
the ds got loose from the car
and hit like a million thing under the car
not only i lost the ds
when it got loose it hit my transsmition and break it into 2 pieces
so i spend so much fixing it
and when i wanted 2 buy a ds from ford here
they told me that it is unavailable and i have 2 pay 600$ and wait around 40 days
so the work shop made a custom ds for me
that coast me 200$
and it is a miss
now i feel a strong vibration and the car performance lowered alot
i can't speed @ all with this strong vibration

here is the long story in detail
so can u plz help me find a good ds with the best price
because it will cost me alot to ship it all the way to saudi arabia

The stock drive shaft on the 2005 and newer v6 mustangs has a tendency to break loose at speeds above 125mph (not sure in km/h). The best thing to do is to not remove your speed limiter, but you already know that now.

dew - The new aluminum drive shafts can weigh as little as 14 lbs. I believe the stock one weighs somewhere around 35. 20 lbs doesn't sound like much, but in this case you're losing rotational mass, which is the best kind of weight to lose.

Think of it like the tea-cups at Disneyland; its hard to get it spinning because the cup weighs so damned much, but if you had a significantly lighter cup, it would be much easier to get it spinning. The same principle holds true for drive shafts. Adding lighter rims and tires will also produce the same effect.

my only problem, is finding good looking black rims that are light! Maybe to compensate I could get the new drive shaft haha.

I plan on doing both, although i'll probably do rims and tires first.

The trick to staying quick and light on your feet (or tires in this case) is to stay 17" or less when choosing new rims. 18's and above, especially when you get over 20", will really start to bog the car down. In my case, I want better performance, good traction and good looks so i'll be going with a 17x9 wheel and probably 275 rears and 245 front tires. I'll also be keeping the same overall diameter of tire (revolutions per mile).

And the stockers aren't anything special as far as rims go. As long as you go 17" or another set of 16's then i'm sure you'll at least be able to match the weight that you have now, if not lower it.

now youve gone and torn my heart in two. I really really want 18" Black bullit rims deep dish. Are the replicas lighter than the ford ones? I just don't think going 17 would give me the look i want. my 16s look tiny right now. I also favor power a little over looks, so i am going to go with the 8.8 rear end with those 4.10s we love to talk about first and then go with the rims and maybe some nice tires. This is a DD so I am not overly concerned with the tires. But it would be nice to not peel out every time I punch it (not even all the way) from a red light.

how that sucks! im guessing your tranny is screwed up now too?

for a good driveshaft that can take sppeds...just buy a GT DS. its not going to save you any weight..buuuuut its only 100 bucks and its good for over 150 mph! Vs. 400-800 for an Alum. or carbon fiber one
Go to
Newtakeoff.com and they will set you up. ive bought stuff from them and the shipping is fairly quick!
good luck!

A GT OEM driveshaft will not work in a V-6 unless you install a mount for the center bearing and change the pinion flange.

+1, and I wouldn't trust the stock GT drive shaft any more than the stock v6 one.
