Today as I was at the BP down the street to fill up my car, and after I had already used my credit card I see a small piece of tattered paper loosely taped on the octane rating for my pump. The paper is indecipherable, but glancing at another pump I see that the number 92 has been placed over what had for so long been a 93. I stopped the pump at under a gallon and drove to the Exxon a few blocks from there to find the precious 93 waiting for me (and at a few cents less too)
This raises the question, was there a possibility that my previous fill up was 92 octane gasoline? I know for a fact the pump had said 93, but it WAS a BP, so it is plausible to think the pump was incorrectly marked. But I heard no knocking throughout the duration of the tank. Would that cause the impleasant odor I've been experiencing?
And maybe it was a placebo effect, but with the 93 torque tune it felt to me as if the car was performing better after filling up at the Exxon station.
