Default 2008 Mustang V6 Tune/Smell

I installed a JLT CAI with a Bamchips 93 Race tune, and now if i drive farther than 5 or so miles, my car smells like my uncles Roadrunner. It's like a semi burning smell. The car doesnt run hot. What's going on? Am i running too rich? My WOT air/fuel is set +/- 0.0. I didnt change any settings aside from the speed limiter.. But this smell is really bugging me, at least the fact i dont know if its normal.

At first i figured it was maybe the intensity of the race tune (its pretty gnarly) so i switched to the 93 torque tune. But i got the same problem still. I really dont want to go back to the blasted air box. So can anyone provide any answers?

(still waiting on a reply from Doug at Bamachips)

i just got my jlt in the mail today, but its toooo cold out right now. i went with tillman on the tuner though. i`ll be watching to see what people have to say about the smell. i had that in my 67 whenever i punched it, but that was a 4 barrel dumpin all 4. plus the car wasnt sealed up as nice as these new ones.

Right now it smells like a 4 barrel which is driving me nuts. Let me know if your heat shield rattles too because mine was so bad i had to pad the places where it came in contact with the towers.

The fact that you smell something burning after the engine gets hot (5 miles) , something is burning. In the dark shine a flashlight under the hood and you should see smoke if there is smoke, try to trace where it is coming from. A good bet would be from the spot you where last messing with.

Your probably experiecing some sort of offset in your air/fuel ratio. Getting in contact with Doug will probably fix this problem, hes known for his customer service, it just might take him a day or two to get back to you. In the mean time, just reload the stock tune and see if you have the same problem.

Its weird i havnt driven the stang for 2 weeks and i have a C&L intake with Bama 91 Race as well, i just started the car, let it warm up, drove for 5 min and gunned it couple of times, shes still strong However at the end when tried to park her i smelled the same thing for a second and its gone, looked under the hood and everything was perfectly fine. I think its normal if you go hard on the car, but it should take couple seconds for the smell to be gone, if you have it all the time then thats no good

Any clues as to the flavor of the smell? Sweet, paper burning, oil burning, wood burning, rubber burning, wool burning?

I put a K&N drop-in filter in my V6. For the first few days/miles it smelled sweet because of the oil-wet nature of the filter. It was sucking the oil into the engine and into hot places in the intake tract.

If your hands were oily during the install, the surfaces you touched will burn it off if they get hot enough.

It might be completely unrelated to the new parts; got a plastic bag hooked on your exhaust?

the tip is chrome but the boxy part of the muffler is coated black, yes.

the smell is tough to put my finger on but it is somewhat sweet somewhat wood/oil burn. this weekend

even in the rain today on the way back from work, i could smell the devious smell, but it seems to be diminishing...possibly because im driving the car like and old lady now

I believe he was asking if the chrome is covered in black from oil coming out the tail.
