its warming up today might be he day to install the tunes. please correct me if i am not understanding this. i can install the cai, then plug in the x3 and it will download the stock settings if i dont turn the key on.( or do i need to download the stock settings before i install the cai.?) after which i can go through the menu to upload my tune. will my canned tunes be clearly labeled to find? when it says custon tune would that be where you could actually make your own changes which i guess you cant do after july of 08 with the sctx3? thanks

Install your cai and then get inside the car and play with the tuner. You don't have to start the engine in order to upload the tune, but you will have to turn the key to aux a few times.
A custom tune is written by a tuner and usually included with your cai/tuner package. X-cals have the option of changing certain parameters (like tire size, gear ratio, speed limiter, etc.) when you install the tune.

yeah custom tune is where you do your own custom tuning. if you purchase a mailorder tune you will wright over one of the existing canned tunes. i used the tune for the jlt cai and it was ok but not the best. if you really want something get in contact with Chris from Tillman speed. i ordered the 93 street race and now its a whole new animal. i also had some problem after i flashed my car with the idle. the mustang gurus on afm helped me out though. after you flash your car the idle may jump up and down a little until the car re learns it. theres procedures to go through in your manual to fix this. i just let mine run it's course and it fixed itself in about a week (i only drive 4 miles each way to work).
ya, i did order the jlt cai and tunes from chris at tillmans, ive got 3 tunes on this thing. the instruction disk is not too good for the first timer. i went through it a few times, but just wasnt clear on those couple things. i also checked out the sct website last night too and downloaded the programs for my pc for future tunes. the way i took it was when i plug in the tuner, with the key off, it will have power and download my factory settings automaticaly? then i can play with the tuner. is that right?

oh, the other thing was do i really need to pull fuses. i can see turning everything off, i took that to be if you had a weak battery it could draw it down.( fuel pump, fan, ect.)

No you don't need to pull them... And never, ever, ever start the car while tuning. You will fry the PCM.
