Default 2005 Mustang V6 Gauge Problems

Hi,

I have a 2005 v6 and the fuel and tempertature guages wen ahywire. They are both pointing way past the maximum meter reading. It started about 2 months ago. At first I disconnected the battery and they went back to normal for a few weeks, but now they just are pegged even with the ingnition off.

Any suggestions before I hit the dealer or has anyone seen this before. I know there were probelms with the fuel guages and sending unit, but since it's both I don't think it would be that.

It looks like you probably just have a electrical issue or your sensors are off. I believe there is a tsb over something like this, so check that out first then take to your dealership.

I had already looked at teh Ford website for service bulletins about it, buit have found none. Was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem. I've seen alot on gas guages but not on both.

Run the car until the fuel gets low. If the low fuel light comes on, your sending unit is okay. Is it the 4 gauge or 6 gauge cluster? The 4 gauge clusters are known for these kinds of problems. I had the same issue, so I went to a junker and found a 6 gauge. Swapped it out. Smooth as butter now.

Having same problem with my daughter's car. Of course it is just out of warranty. Dealer recommends replacing both tank sensors and instrument cluster..to the tune of $1400. If this is a widespread problem, seems to me they should be fixing for free. It's no wonder we're having to bail these companies out..they are putting way more emphasis on keeping their union workers happy than building a reliable product!

I have the same problem with engine temp and my speedo went out it seems to me that Ford put some pretty crappy instrument clusters in the mustangs. I have seen quite a bit of the guages going out on other mustang owners maybe we should start some sort of e-mail campaign and tell ford to fix them for free, I think if enough of us flood there e-mail we might be able to get it fixed. Wishful thinking.

Had the same problem a year ago with the temp sensor. Ended up getting a new gauge cluster.

Answer to your gauge problems: The problem you are having is a bad gauge motor that is located on the instrument cluster circuit board.I have the new style motor that will last. I reccomend replacing all the motors . Average cost $125.00 Alheg1@msn.com

If it were just the fuel gauge I'd suggest it's the sending unit. But this sounds like a cluster problem.

you know i not only have the problem with the noisy cluster which very well might be this motor that was mentioned?? my gas gauge still fluctuates and intermittently drops to dead e and then comes back. happens when tank reaches around 1/4 tank and seems to be on turns, like out of side streets. ive had the dealer replace fuel pump sending unit like 4 times now. anybody have any suggestions??
