Default 09 Mustang Ignition and Tuner

Looking into getting new ignition power cords and a tuner. I was looking at JBA power cables, but they are listed as not CARB approved. The same with the Diablo tuner. Does anyone know any other products that are CARB approved and where can I get them? If I do get the products listed above, what are the consequences if any. I love my Mustang, but I don't want to do anything that would get me into trouble. Thanks.

i`m guessing power cords= spark plug wires? those would be fine as with the tuner. you dont have a carb on your 09. fords went with fuel injection in the mid 80`s. i went with live wires and a sctx3 tuner.

Yessir you can get the tuner and wires and they will work fine while adding some much needed power. Wires are on my future mod list, although almost everything under the sun is on it as well.

I think kingford09 is talking about CARB exempt status. Are you saying that Mass. has adopted CARB standards (which are California air quality standards and I know several other states use them)? I live in CA and they are a pain. If Mass. does use CARB standards, then you can not legally use a tuner at all, nor any modification that has to do with air quality (CAI, CATs, etc.). In fact, these can void your warranty.

That said, it all depends on your Ford dealer who does your service (or warranty work). You can call them and ask if they install the wires, and if so, will that interfer with your warranty. As for the tuner and CAI, you can use them, but you will need to put your tune back to factory before bringing it in and exchange any item (like a CAI) before you bring it in. In other words, if your dealer says you can not use that part (tuner, CAI, wires, etc.), you must swap them out before any service.

All that make sense? Any of it?

Tuners are specifically listed as 'offroad use only'

Thanks for all the info guys! I think I will stick with interior and exterior "decorations" for right now and then see what happens in the future.
