anyone have a general idea about what this would cost? my plans are since cyl 1 was blown, i might as well bore it 30 over and give it pistons that are more boost friendly, im just not sure what its going to cost
generally 25 bucks a cyl.
its the labor that kills you. takeing it apart putting it together. if you take it to the shop, apart, cleaned, and preped. under $200
most shops will tell u its not worth it to bore out the 4.0 but since yours is already blown i say go for it, then let me know how it turns out so i can bore mine out if its awsome!

i have yet to find some one else who when changing their oil ( every 2000 miles or when they get bored ) details the under side of their car.
X-C April 2010,Heads, Cam,Internals April 2011, or blown engine, witch ever comes first.
The transformation has begun!
yeah, it would would be more benificial than getting a new 4.0, hmm lets see, little jump in power pluss better pistons, complete 4.0 engine, im thinking the cheaper route which also nets me more power
if you go with a light weight piston and port and polish the heads aswell, you should be looking at about 50ish at the wheels. plus it will change the attitude of the car a bit and give it a deeper growl. the torque should jump pretty good aswell. but you never know for sure untill you do it. you know, if you are going that far, you should go with all forged internals and the go forced induction. i've seen a 2006 4.0 mustang do the 1/4 in the low 10's. i'm about to start building an engine for mine. i picked one up on ebay for like $350 plus s+h. i plan to build it with forged internals and then put all the bolt ons that are on the car now on the new engine then i'm gonna supercharge it.

Just got my replacement engine installed due to the same issue (blown piston in cylinder #1). I also had my X-Charger put back on the replacement engine. Tomorrow I will be talking to the performance shop about doing a light port and polish and new pistons (and maybe valves springs and valves) on the engine that they pulled out. My intentions are to swap back to the original engine and move the X-Charger back over to the beefed up motor and sell the stock 4.0 that I am currently running. I will let you know what the shop quotes me as far as a price for this job.

sorry, i did not know that. that would help explain why you blew cylinder 1. lol , i was always taught that forged internals with forced induction came as a pair if you wanted it to last.

lol you must have just not read the whole thing, i even mention getting more boost friendly pistons lol
hey dude, you may want to go back to the 7 lb boost pulley until you beef up your old 4.0, might keep the piston from going pop a little longer
I think that it would be an understatement to say that I am being much easier on this engine. I also installed a wide band A/F gauge to watch for the signs of detonation. I think a lot of X owners are running the 2.8 pulley and they have had zero problems. I think we just got lucky...or unlucky I guess. I did drive my car pretty hard before. In retrospect I really should have been monitoring things a little more closely if I was going to be pushing boost all the time on the stock motor. My custom tune was probably a little more aggressive than the stock tune from bamachips so the possibility of getting some bad fuel and it causing significant problems was probably magnified by my tune. I think the bama tune is richer than the tune I was running when I popped a piston. Again I highly recommend a wide band to anyone running FI on a stock engine for a little security. The $300 dollars spent on the gauge is much cheaper that a engine swap...I know!!

seems like most motor problems that come from the x charger are because they get custom tunes instead of sticking with dougs tune. i know its not as aggressive as a totally custom tune, but i think doug knows more about f.i in our cars than most people. i think ill stick with dougs tune. hopefully when i go down to Panama City for spring break ill have my x installed, and since i go through alabama i might just stop by dougs shop and have him make a custom tune for me. sounds like a grand plan to me!

I had my A/F gauge installed with my X Charger ( #76 ), I watch it all the time while driving. The dyno that did my tune recommended auto meter or plx, they said the PLX was a better Gauge for what I needed.
