Default 2008 Mustang V6, 5 Spd CAI

i am looking to purchase a CAI system; but i do not want to spend the extra $300+ on the program tuner. is the tune really worth it? or does anyone know of a local (Miami) shop that will do the tune for less?

i was thinking of going with the Roush CAI.

Go with a BBK intake... I ran mine for a month without a tune and it ran fine.

The CAI alone won't do much at all for your car without a tune also. Some people have gotten the tune first then the CAI.The tune is the best thing to do for our cars.Alot of them went with the combo CAI and tune from Bama,Tillman,Tunable Induction, etc.Have heard that the Roush CAI isn't any good, but I don't know because I don't have one.Have you changed your muffler? If not,the cheapest way to go is a GT takeoff muffler. You can get them on e-bay,newtakeoff.com,etc.Anywhere from $30-$70.This will free up around 7-10HP for your car.If your dead set on just the CAI that doesn't require a tune,BBK,S&B,AIRRAID are a few that some are using.Hopes this helps you.

it depends on if your just looking for a cai for looks( maybe a slight gain in performance) get one that does not require a tune. k&n has one too i think.

if your looking for performance, the tune is for sure the way to go in which case you want a cai that requires the tune and will take full advantage of the tune. as stated above, you should at the least change your muffler.

if its a choice, forget the cai and just get the tuner. a tune on a stock v6 will improve performance and mpg. then you can allways just purchase a new tune file online for any changes you make to your car in the future ( this is just a opinion)

I put the FRPP CAI on my 2007 convertible and loaded the FRPP tune. The car ran much better than before but not as well as I was expecting; therefore, I purchased an SCT tuner with a 93 octane torque tune from Bamachips.

The interesting part of this is that before loading the Bamachips tune, I reloaded the stock tune on the car and put the FRPP tune back on the Ford tuner, and before loading the Bamachips tune I drove the car around the block. Let's just say that it would barely run, sputtering all the way. I couldn't believe how the CAI affected the car without a tune. I then loaded the Bamachips tune and the car runs great.

I understand that there are CAI's that say they will work without a tune, but given the way my car ran with the FRPP CAI and no tune I don't see how they could make much of a difference in performance.

its all about matching equipment and octane to the tune. a stock tune is not set up for 93 octane. at the same time your 93 bama is not set up for 87 octane. air/fuel mixtures are very important. a cai that doesnt require a tune is not going to make much of a difference. maybe slight as some have said compaired to with a tune, but it will look cool.

thanks for the info. i installed the BBK CAI... i think i may need to get the tune soon though, my check engine light came on.

regarding the take off gt muffler... if i replace my existing muffer with this one i will see an improvement in performance? even without going Dual?
