Default How do I loosen the engine oil drain plug?

Hi guys,

I tried twice today to loose the engine oil plug this afternoon but couldnt really move it a bit. I tried to use hammer to make some impacts on my wrench to lose it but still no succeed.
Should I buy a air compressor then? :P I am not a weak guy and did all my previous engine oil changes to my Jeep/Ford Escape or others...Am I have to pay somebody to do this?? Walmart is raising the price to 55 for Mobile 1, darn it.

thanks, any suggestion would be appreciate.

Julius

Might try a socket on it.That's what I use and have no problems at all taking it off.Are you using the box end of the wrench? You would think that it would loosen up using the box end and hitting the wrench with a hammer.Might spray a little wd-40 or some thread loosener on it and be sure to wipe it off before trying to take it off.

You could buy an oil evacuater (manual/gravity pump) for 1/2 a Benjamin and never have to touch/ molest that plug bolt again.

Thanks guys, really appreciate it. I am using a socket wrench, indeed, with a soft head hummer to push it. Let me make sure so on 07, the draining plug is face to the pass. side tire right? And I need to turn it ccw correct?

An oil evacuater sounds fine, I could use that to my lawn mower as well..hmmm...half a Benj? .....

Make sure that you use the right size wrench or ratchet and turn it the right direction. Righty tighty, lefty loosy. If you use a wrench make sure that you use the box end.

I've had it on there for over a year. Doesn't leak a drop. Much less hassle for me not having to crawl under there with a wrench anymore.

we still gotta crawl under there for the oil filter though! haha, thats a pretty nifty valve though. might as well just take that bolt out while im working with the filter. as for your problem, id say you just gotta hold your mouth right. possibly spray some Pb blaster on it? wd40 or something like that. shouldnt be hard at all.

Put a pipe on the end of your wrench/ratchet to get more leverage. Use a pipe at least 12 or so inches long, but the longer the better.

It's spring loaded. It won't move unless you move it...
