Default 2006 Mustang 4.0 exhaust

I have a 2006 Mustang 4.0L, when I give it gas then let off it pops like backfiring noises.

So this is the original stock exhaust right? I would suggest to take it straight to the closest ford dealership and let them figure it out. Your warranty should cover this free of cost to you.

That's not uncommon at all with these cars. Has it done it for as long as you've had it?

Yes, it was stock exhaust and I added a K & N cold air intake and magnaflow dual exhaust and now it's more noticable. It seems to be only when the car is first warming up. The muffler tips vibrate when idoling.

You failed to mention weather you re-tuned it after the exhaust and CAI? if you haven't then you are probably having rich or lean issues. Put you stock intake back on and see if the problem continues. Some of these Cai's say they don't need a tune, but more people have run into problems by not tuning them, and every engine will react differently to each setup given their individual idosyncracies.

Mine does the same thing. I have a N&N air intake and dual flows from the headers back, and it only pops when it is cold and when i let my foot off the gas. I believe its becasue i dont have an x-pipe or h-pipe. But either way how much does a tune normally cost and what does it consist of? One of those might be in my near future.

Custom tunes are cheap. $50-$90 depending on where you buy them. The expensive part is the tuner which will run you $300-$400. The tuner is the unit that stores the tunes and uploads them to your vehicle. The tuner also allows you to diagnose problems and make adjustments to the tune. Tuners are locked in to each vehicle so you can't borrow one and use it on another vehicle. Everyone has to buy one for themselves. This is on the list of 'must haves' for anyone modding their vehicle.

Some of the things the tune does:

* Adjust fuel/air ratio.
* Adjust engine timing for specific octanes of fuel.
* Remap the shift points and shift pressure in the tranny of an auto.
* Etc, etc.

In the higher octanes (91 or 93) this will give you a lot more torque and horsepower.

the 4.0`s kinda do that if your parked and rev them up and let off the gas. it probably seems worse if you have a loud exaust. maybe worse when cold too. it probably doesnt do it so much while driving? if i really tach it up, i get that with mine some too.while driving, under a load, i dont get that at all. i think its just common for the 6 cly with a non restrictive exaust system. if you have alot of poping, it may be in your tuning.

the x pipes i heard sound a bit more raspy and higher tone vs. deeper tone, thats why i went with the h. its very close to just having seperate pipes, which alot of guys do too.

if you buy a tuner from tillmans, they will write 3 custom tunes for it( for your mods) for around 375.00 i imagine bamachips will be around the same.

Hmm a H-pipe could be alot cheaper couldnt it? I mean i already have dual pipes all i would need to do is connect the pipes mid way down the pipes?
