Upgrade/Service Day! Plugs, Coil, Oil, and Filters!
alrighty...so tomorrow i got the day off, finally. i decided i was just gonna work on the stang for a bit, nothing better to do other than sleep i guess. some of you know im gonna be installing my screamin demon coil pack finialy(been sitting in the garage for a week). BAD NEWS though....havent got my wires yet, and i ordered em from Moss last monday. bummer, better be here monday or tuesday though. ill also be changing oil and my my fuel filter. so before i get started, iv just got a few minor questions that i probably already know the answer to. i just figure i like to hear everyones opinion before i start. so up first...what plugs are the best for our non f/i 4.0's? Ive always like NGK Iridums but for 11$ each...dang! also....can anyone point me to a spark plug changing guide or video? my first time changing these plugs...iv changed plugs on trucks, boats, quads, bikes, and my old 65' pontiac bonneville but those are way easier to do. i just like to have somethin to look at...in other words RTFB(read the effin book). also what are some of your experiences and tips with the plug changing? i know there was a debate on GT's cuz of their aluminum heads, and while i think our 6's have aluminum heads, our oem plugs are different? uh, lets see...well i guess that about wraps it up, any other info would be great too, thanks guys n gals! (sorry if theses are some all too familiar questions, i did a search and didnt really find much.)

for the SDC you want a single ground plug.
autolites are used in testing for SDC's
autolites, bosch, champion, ive herd good reviews of some ngk's even though i dont prefer them, ive herd good reviews about some newer ones.
its just like plugs in anything else.
1 remove plug wire by twisting boot.
2 use a plug socket ( has the rubber stopper in it to pull out plug )
3 gap new plug. gappers can be found for like a dollar. just put in the thin side and twist up to .65 ( thats why you should use a single ground plug so you can get the full gap.
4 the wires should have a lube, a light greese, put this on the porcilim part of the plug
5 go down to i belive 12 ftlbs it should say on the box though,i usually go hand tight, then a nice little bump
there you will find the basic how to, and a map of our coils.
it will tell you what plug wire goes wear, use the numbered wire on the map to the number on the plug wire its self
a good tip. warm up the car, always change your plugs with warm heads.

ive always just snugged them up, but for christmas i asked for a 3/8 torque wrench with inch pounds. so now i`m using the torq wrench. book calls for 156 in. pounds( 13 ft pounds). i ran motorcraft plugs, ran good. i`m running the bosch fusion right now,no gap, runs good. next time around i might try something different. thres some race plugs, 20.00+. i might try those next. i think ngk, champion, autolite, are all good plugs.

with 2+ grounds, its a good idea, if the spark doesent go one path it can go another, but how often does a fien tuned engine miss? and if it does it on 1 rpm out of XXXX does it matter? it depends.
more gap. better ignition i belive. with one ground the spark is pretty much forced to it anyways. now for higher rpm engines, like my boat, that has a 360º ground, karts, bikes, etc etc... more than one ground is good. it just depends. but i bought 2 platnum +2's and took them out after 200 miles to experiment with single grounds..dident feel a power increase, but it helped my fuel mixture a hair

y not? i have a little extra cash on me, and got time to spare this week...figured while im under the hood and basically servicing my whole motor, i might as well get some new plugs and install them instead of using my oem ones. i wanna gap my plugs anyways so since ill have em out....at least thats the way i see it. i got my plugs and wires today though, just 5 min ago, so i think ill head over to the shop n get em installed. ill let yall know how it goes.(turns out those champion double platinums are single ground after all, confusing name, bit pricey though)

alrighty! i got everything installed in about 2 hours time. pretty good i guess. didn't encounter any major problems, everything went pretty smooth really. i did however accidentally cross 2 wires and made it accidentally sound like a gnarly v8. scared the crap out of me. i guess i still dont get why 5 and 6 on the coil is backwards? from the top it goes left to right 1 2 3, then on the bottom right to left 4 6 5, really confusing. and after paying so much attention to getting my wires on, i forgot to plug the new coil in when i tried my 1st start up. haha, i felt so stupid when i looked at it again. Also my new double platinum champion plugs went in fine too, gapped to .065. also, with the way my fuel filter looked after only 24000mi, id say i hate every gas station iv ever been to for selling me gas that gets that dirty in the filter from build up. iv changed a lot of filters on tractors and trucks and never seen build up that bad. there wasnt any particles, just dark dark brown gas from inside the filter. also i was kind of worried for my start up after my fuel filter instal. i know on our tractors you gotta prime the system really good to get all the air out or youll air lock it. thats takes forever to fix. also i had a little trouble gettin the fuel lines off the filter. i bought the little plastic tool, got one side off with a little man power, but the one towards the rear was a PITA. i tugged and tugged and tugged, ended up beating on it with a mallet and a 1/2 extension, finally popped off haha. after i replaced the filter and connected the lines and replaced the shroud, i just turned the key about 6 times for pressurize the system. it does make a weird noise but goes away after about 5 turns. hit the starter and she rolled right over with a growl. took it down the road but didnt really get on it yet. ill post back if i can tell a difference. first impression is it idles a lot smooter though. thanks for all the help guys! also ill get some pics up, i went with blue livewires...goin for an all ford color match under the hood. makes a good contrast from the white and red exterior color scheme.
