so i took a college visit yesterday to Vincennes university in southern Indiana and decided I'm going there in the fall for my horticulture degree. while taking the tour of the campus, they mentioned the auto shop and how they will fix peoples cars free of charge, they just want experience for their students...you just have to pay for parts. well heck i thought this sounded pretty good, since ill be so far away from home, and away from my tool shop, if something goes wrong i wont be able to fix anything myself. well i got to thinkin about it and it struck me. what if i bought my supercharger, and had em install it for me? if they would, that would be a free install! BUT i dunno if i would trust em with my car, and i dunno if they even could do it. im sure if i had a weekend to myself and i had a few buddies with me i could do it myself, its a pretty straightforward install for the x. The thing is, if ill be in class i wont have time to do it, plus ill be a little closer to alabama and maybe i could shoot down sometime and see doug for a private tune in the summer. well that was just a thought...let me know what yall think...would it be wise to let college kids learn on my car, or not? im kinda on the fence about it, i would almost need some kind of guarantee i guess

haha yea true. BUT if i really dont have the time, and i know a few of the guys in the shop (i know one of em works on sprint cars for armstrong racing) i still might consider if i get some kind of guarantee/warranty. that would be great...ill ask around n see what i find out

It wouldn't matter to me if I knew some guys in the shop or not. If I ever went to the doctor and it was somebody I went to high school with, I would change places.

I've thought of taking an auto shop class at one of our community colleges just to get access to their tools and a lift. Of course, having the instructor there to guide me would be a bonus as well.

Have you asked the professors if they are willing to do it, and what specific class they would assign your project too? I would think that assembling and installing an entire supercharger system on an S197 Mustang would be a task for the best students in an advanced class, supervised from start to finish by the professors themselves. Under those circumstances, I'd say go for it.
If they plan on giving your car to either a beginning or intermediate group of students, or if they don't plan on looking over shoulders, though...
exactly....who doesnt want the best for their car? i haven't had time to talk to any of them, and as far as i understand its just to fix things that break. like i said i would only have to pay for parts, all they want is experience. im sure its not every day they get to work on a newer mustang so im sure not a lot of them are very familiar with it. with that in mind, i dont know if they would take on the job or not. of course ill be buying the system, i just wonder if they can install it. also i wont be goin to school there untill this fall. i planned on getting it installed this spring but a cant go blowing 6000$ with this economy. im sure by the end of summer ill have the money, but right now my goal is to just get an 8.8 take off this summer, and find someone in the fall to install the s/c. thats just why this deal would appeal to me, as of now though, i cant snap my fingers and have everything done. i know a lot of kids that go to school there now though, so il ask them and see where it gets me.

Well it sounds like you have it pretty well thought out so hopefully those guys are better than Jimmy Johnson's pit crew and they can get it on for you. Good Luck.
