ok seems like i have been hearing alot about how weak the 7.5 is. this is my question. my fiance just got a 08 v6 mustang. its a preety blue color! anyways she loves how much get up mine has and wants to kinda do the same setup as my car. this is what we are planning. stage 2+ heads from ssm and a x charger, along with CAI tune and full headers and exhaust. i believe we will be around the 370+ range. do you you think that the 7.5 will hold up at this much HP? cause the first thing we did was get her a t lok. now im wondering about the 7.5 i have a 8.8 so i dont worry about it. but is 370 pushing it?

well ive also heard that the t-lok is prone to breaking and having to be rebuilt alot, any truth to this? cause i would rather get a detroit locker for 500 bucks if i dont have to worry about it breaking everymonth.

i only got 2K on mine. but ive already put it through its paces.
i think they are solid. in the box they are solid. poper lube, and installation is a must for extended life of gears and T loc.
for ur HP like i said id go 8.8, and get a nice limited slip. depending on your driveing re build it before it even goes in.
i prefer mine light. my sisters hubby added extra steel and clutch...he goes around a corner, and its chirp chirp chirp all teh way. but dangit he dont slip much!
i belive the 7.5 can handle all teh power bolt ons can add. once u go FI i think its time to start looking in to 8.8
the one in my truck has 133K on it.

The transformation has begun!
They say the 4.0 will handle up yo 400hp at the flywheel not the wheels, I assuming when u say 370 you mean at the fly wheel. Don't think you'll get that at the wheels with just heads and an X even if you add hdrs and dual exh. I have an X and I have some of the better #'s for an X, I have 347 @ flywheel w? 374 torq, which translate to 295 rwhp on 93 and 318 rwtq, on 93 oct, I'm just saying!

My horsepower numbers and torque numbers are in my signature and im still on the stock 7.5 but have never launched over 2k because my auto wont let me. Everything has been fine with the rear but i will be getting an 8.8 or a 9.0 eventually

Just curious, I see your signiture says your fiance has a 08 Shelby? How does a Shelby have a v6 and a 7.5 axle? Oh, and since you were able to find a 8.8 rear end with 3.73 gears for $150, why don't you just do that again, thats a steal, literally...

Oh, and one more thing, Im sure your gonna need to get a new driveshaft to handle that power. I would thing that much power would be rough on the poor stock ds. I would recommend getting one for yours too with the mods you've done.

ya she named the car shelby!!! lol and i was lucky cause some guy didnt know what a roush was when he was parting out his mustang when he crashed it. so thats why i got the rear axel so cheap. some 40 YR old thought he had a regular v8

The 7.5 should handle 300rwhp without too many problems. Beyond that i'd say you probably need to upgrade to the 8.8" rear.
370, even at the flywheel, is wishful thinking for just heads and an X-charger. I'd say more like 330 realistically. If you're going to go heads, why not go stage 3 and toss in some cams while you're at it?
Might want to think about saving some of that money for the wedding too.

she hates the way my car sounds. she says it sounds like a motorboat. so no cams for her. and wedding??? lol not for another year ok so i should be good with the 7.5??

We're having our wedding next January and in the mean time we're saving every extra bit of money we can get.
But yeah, I wouldn't think you'd have too many problems with the 7.5, even with those mods. The tlocks don't break, but the clutches in them wear out after awhile. It's normal and happens on the 8.8" too, but the 7.5" lsd is a little more costly to rebuild than the 8.8" one.
