Hi Everyone - I have a (very) recent 2009 V6 that i want to put a nicer sounding muffler on. I have no interest in (or budget for) going to duals. Just a simple "stick a new can on the end" approach. Has anyone got suggestions or experience to share - and in particular - it seems the main choices are between Magnaflow or Flowmaster...
Well in my opinion, Bolra axleback sound the best, but they are very costly. My first exhaust was a Flowmaster American Thunder which sounded really nice. Very deep at idle, but there was a slight drone at around 3000 rpm. If I had to do it over again, I would still get the flowmaster. If you want to save some money, look into a gt takeoff, it won't be too loud and it will be a lot cheaper and still yeild performance.

I just bought a Flowmaster American Thunder for my 2006. It's definately not the very best you can put on a stang, but it is a great choice! I just wanted to avoid having to deal with all the changes from stock to duals... Here's the link to the site I ordered mine from. It's the cheapest price online! Here are also some you tube Videos of the same exhaust.
Congrats on the new stang. I have an recent 08 v6 and am in the same boat. After looking all over I have come to the conclusion that the ford racing (FFRP) one is the one to have. Its realy made by borla but costs a $100 less. According to my dealer it wont cause warreny issues even though i dont think most quality brands shouldnt either. The magnaflow looks top quality and sounds good on there site but many have siad it will make your car sound like a v6 import. If you type the flowmaster Part # on youtube you can see a clip made by flowmaster. I want to here the bassani but its hard to find good clips out there because most are only interested in going dual. Good luck.
I agree with the others about the borla muffler, both that it sounds good and is expensive. I personally have a GT takeoff on mine right now. I think it actually makes the car sound very good. More the way that Ford should have made the v6 sound from factory. A nice performance tone that doesn't annoy anyone. It makes the exhaust sweet between 2500 and 4000. Almost like some porsches.

I threw on a flowmaster and it not only sounded good, but I could tell a little difference in the performance to. Mine does drone a little at high rpm, is that normal w/ alot of peoples though? What do you guys think about Corsa Exhaust? I think they only come dualed, but when I went on youtube, I thought they sounded pretty good.
I see that Steeda makes an axle back muffler that looks alot like the ffrp one. There sales guy told me it is also made for them by borla. It is on there site for $229. Anyone seen or heard one on a car?
you can save alot of cash and get the same performance by going with the gt takeoffs. you get the set for 69.00. just use the rt one, and if you get some pipes down the road you can go duals. they sound real good, espat wide open throttle they come in brand new condition. scroll down the page to see them. look at youtube clips before you make your final decision! theres lots of flowmaster/ gt takeoff clips on there. I had a gt takeoff myself, and it sounded really good, a lot louder than stock, but not obnoxious. good luck

I have seen these pypes brand kits out there that consist of a xpipe and two gt take off mufflers for $300. They say its a complete kit. Has anyone put one of these kits on themselves? Any surprises? fit and quality?
I think if you find a shop that do custom job, you can get a custom dual exhaust with a pair of GT take offs and later on if you want better sound, just change your mufflers, it will cost almost the same as buying just a good aftermarket single muffler.
Borla single mufflers are around $400 US, instead of that buy a pair of GT take offs for $60 or less on ebay and go dual custom pipes, way cheaper than buying a kit and you will love it

I have the single Flowmaster and it sounds good.Dual exhaust will not get you anymore power than the single Flowmaster. My muffler ran $192 including chrome tip, installed.I picked up approx. 4 miles more per gallon. It has already paid for itself.
i have pypes street pro axle back on right now, but on tuesday i am going for a true dual set-up with pypes violators. i would recommend pypes it sounds great, i just wanted a louder set up. my friend had the FRPP muffler on, and it sounded a bit ricey for me. just my .02
