Default brake sticking,help

e. brake was on, released it, drove away.
started to hear a noise like i had a flat!
tire was fine, but the pad was smoking, after a few miles of driving,it seemed to clear up. does e. brake cables freeze up in cold weather? car only has 17,000 on it and i use the e. brake alot.
just wondering if you guys have had this happen?
thank you

yes they do,common problem. happened to both our cars this winter. the rubber boot that connects the cable at the rear brake cracks and lets water in. i squirted oil down my cables and got through the winter, but they need to be replaced. our other car was under warenty. around 50.00 a side for cables.

You may have snapped one of the cables underneath.

welcome to the forums. this is a old post from in the winter. if your cable is stuck now, its a bad cable for sure( probly rusted up) a quick fix you could remove the cable from the caliper by removing the retaining clip from the linkage. maybe just pick up a new cable and replace it so you can still have e brakes.
