Default Need Gear Information

I understand that the 4.10 gear is desireable. Why? Does this mean that in a 5 speed that all of my gears would then be 4.10 or do I pick and choose the ratios? If it causes you to accel faster then what does it do to the top end (seems like you would have higher cruise RPMs and reduce MPG). I shift around 25 mph (4000+rpms) from first to second....how would that change with a 4.10? Those numbers are close but I am not 100% they are spot on.

I just want faster 0-60. (who doesn't?)

Thanks!!

4.10 means in 4th gear ( 1:1 ) your final drive is 4.10 ( 4.10 turns of the drive shaft to turn wheels 1 time ) ( 4.10:1 )

5th gear aka OD gear, drops that ratio to 3.XX:1

4.10 means your drive shaft will turn faster, but youll get less out of it... alla 4.10 gear does is get you in the power band faster.

for example. i have 3.73's froma rolling race at 50MPH i can barely hang or hold my own ( plus my clutch was slipping so this may not be correct ) agisnt stock 3.31's

however from a dead stop, my car is easyer to move, and gets to the power faster.....

follow me? lol

as far as shifting, youll shift at a lower speed cause the rpms go up faster.

its really no big deal

you wont hit top end with 4.10's if ur car is still limited youll rev limit first

I have 4:10's and my car gets out of the hole very quickly when it hooks, I disconnected the rev limiter on mine because like stated above i hit the rev limiter before i was topped out. I wouldn't reccomend 4:10;s for everyday driving you get really bad gas mileage and running on the interstate at 70 mph im running at 2500 rpms. But with 4:10's I can smoke the @#$% outta the tires!

So would new gears mean I would be slower at a 30-50mph roll compared to stock?

You are going to have to use smaller words... I am very new to the car modding.

What is a TLock? Upgrade to the 8.8 and get 3.90?

Sorry for the basic questions but I have to start somewhere.

OK a TLok is a LSD or Limited Slip Diff., right now you have whats called an open diff.- meaning when one wheel has less traction the other gets the power from it.
have you ever done a burnout and only one wheel spun(the passenger side) ? thats why
with a LSD or Tlok (-same thing just different names, also known as a Detroit locker, posi, posi trak etc. etc.) you get both wheel with equal power. good for drag racing, not so good in the twistys. but chances are you wont be ony 80+mph into a 20-30 degree turn haulin ass. haha

i have Motive 4:10s and a Ford Racing Tlok in my 7.5 rear end. I love them, forget the gas milage crap.
its simple really, when on the freeway i noticed i get my best gas milage around 74-76 mph at rought 2800 rpm, and even when im hittin it hard and romping around town combined with freeway driving im still getting around 23-19 mpg. its all how you drive really, but on the highway (50-60 mph) i get great gas milage, i just got home from about a 20 mile drive while getting on the gas alot and my gas needle didnt even move

get them, cuz you will love them, they are so much for fun. even my brother in law said right after we finished installing them "wow... this thing really feels like its got a V8 in it"
thats always a compliment!

So, what is the approximate cost of the Tlok? Thanks for the information too.... I knew the name as posi track.

The following is a comment from one of the other posts. Could someone elaborate?

Prices would be helpful for me to figure out where to start.

Thanks again guys (and gals) for all the help.
