Let me know if anyone has used stock V6 mufflers for duals. I am going to build my system by adding a left side mid pipe and then turn the tip, hanger rods and in pipe around on an extra V6 muffler I have hanging around to fit the left side. I have been told that the 4.0 makes more tq and hp with no x or H. Just straight duals. I think the stock mufflers should flow enough but will be quiet enough that it wont need an X or H to get rid of the dreaded drone. Let me know what you think.
i think it would be much better to spend the 69.00, get a set of gt takeoffs, they sound better, yet still kinda quite, look alot better with the stainless tips, and are allready set up with out having to butcher them up. and they are less restrictive.

If no H or X makes more torque why do Ford Racing, Shelby and Steeda use X pipes on their V6 performance cars?
Why modify and add another restrictive V6 muffler? If you want no drone go with GT take offs.

Spend $50 and get a set of GT take-offs. I have them and I love them. It has a nice sound but absolutely NO drone. Mine has no X pipe or H pipe. I have seen no difference in performance at all with the duals, but it looks and sounds really nice. I get compliments all the time.
Thanks for the reply guys. I was just asking if anyone has done this. I am fortunate in that I have the euipment to do the job and I don't want to sound less than hummble when I say that it wouldn't take me long to turn it around and finish it off so that anyone would be hard pressed to see any of the old welds. Cant tell ya why Ford racing uses the x or anyone else for that matter. Just because one company or another does it, doesn't mean it works better. I have read more than one post that said that the best power gains have been achieved without X, H or h pipes due to the 4.0 fireing order. The same posts have also stated that the next best duals other than straight duals is the h configuration which is not true duals and that a single GT will net as much power as any aftermarket dual. We have a V6 in the family that we used GTs with no H,h or x and it had enough drone that it became troublesome. When we added the X it made it quieter, the drone went away and it sounds great but it lost a noticable amount of low rpm tq. I like the look of the GTs but there are after market tips that would look good too. The only other thing I can add to this is that I have 7 (dont ask me why) V6 mufflers neatly stacked in the parts bin that nobody wants and its hard for me to throw them away and I like the look of duals too. I hope I dont sound like a jerk. I'm new to this and I really like this site. I have learned alot and look forward to trading ideas and info.
Im wondering how you want to use the stock muffler on driver side where Ford never made one, if you want to use the passenger side muffler on the driver side, it needs modification and the tips wont look even.
So the thing i dont get is your going to do extra work and modification to fit another V6 restrictive muffler which will drop 10 rwhp on your car and sound not good compared to basic GT take offs
It never been done in a history of Mustang but im very interested to see how dual V6 mufflers sound, make a video clip for sure
BTW X-H pipe that you heard is not good for V6 firing order is NA engines but when you go F/I H or X will help over Y

An x or h pipe produces more power then just straight duals. Just adding another restrive v6 exhaust probably won't help in the power department, you might just be better getting the gt take offs. But yes a single gt takeoff will net you around the same numbers as duals.
