Default Soundproofing To Reduce Interior Exhaust Drone

Does anyone have any experience in soundproofing their vehicle (trunk ?) to reduce exhaust drone? If so, which product was used and what part of the vehicle was soundproofed would be great. I have Dual Flowmaster American Thunders and they can drone a bit on the highway... Thanks

I used this in my 01 Sierra. It was an extreme difference. I rolled and brushed it in. You need to know how to take the door panels, carpet, seats and everything that covers the metal inside the car. Lots of work but it was worth it for me. http://www.quietcar.net/

Call me cheap, but I did my trunk nicely, and only for 50 bucks. I have dual Pypes Violators on my 4.0L. Love the deep sound, and the noise, but there was some drone at 1500-1700 or so which was really annoying. Plus, let's face it.. Our S197 have ZERO insulation in the trunk area, right above mufflers. Wanted to go with Dynamat, but damn, is it expensive... Anyway, went to Home Depot. Picked up a pre-cut 6x9 foot 1/2 inch (6 pound) carpet insulation. I was big enough to fold it neatly three times over without cutting. Then I placed the original trunk floor cover over the insulation, and with sissors cut it to match the trunk cover. I then placed one door mat made of rubber over the speare wheel, the the insulation, and then the original trunk cover on top. Not only does it look good (can't even tell it is there), but also cuts down on the darn metalic drone that was bugging me. Now, the low tone drone is much less, and the sound of mufflers really comes out nicely only when I stomp on it. Best of both worlds... Nice, deep, loud mufflers, and manageble tone inside the car while running down the highway.... My 2c worth... Hope it helps...

The Dynamat does seem a bit pricey. Thanks for the advice here, I think i will try this route.

Hi,
This is my first post. I put the pypes mid muffler system on my 05 v6. The droan was very loud. Dyno mat was extremly expensive.I happened to be at home depot one day in the roofing section and seen a roll of material that looked an awful lot like dynomat. So I opened the package and sure enough it was identical !!! its a flat roof sealing membrane with the thin aluminum sheet on one side and sticky black on the other. It was $50 for the roll did my whole trunk with lots left over . I have since compared the product to the dynomat and can't tell the difference other then the dynomat logo .
Works great . I'm planning on doing the interior and door panels as well. Hope this helps.

I don't know about soundproofing the trunk to help with drone. I've heard resonators between the Y pipe and over-axle pipe can help but I haven't looked into it too much.

I've got a single American Thunder that i've run for awhile now and the drone is becoming a little too much.

I've actually been thinking about swapping back to the stock muffler or at least a GT takeoff. *GASP!*
