well ive posted this before, but i guess i will do it again!
a Y pipe is what our v6's come stock with, it runs 2 pipes from the catalytic converters and converges into one pipe in the shape of a "Y", where your midpipe heads back over your axle to your stock muffler (2005+).
In order to go Dual exhaust, which, trust me, is what you want to do, the Y pipe wont work, that is where the X/H pipes come into play.
*note* you do not need an X or an H pipe, you can just cut your Y pipe and run 2 independent pipes straight back over the axle to your mufflers, which is what i have, and it sounds great, this is probably your cheapest option.
An X pipe is your next option. This option gives the most power without going longtube headers, and it is probably the most common with these "dual exhaust Kits" you find on sites like AmericanMuscle.
Then there is the H pipe, which doesnt add the HP numbers like the X pipe does, but it gives your car a deeper, more muscly note, which a lot of guys on here like a lot.
Now onto my personal favorite set ups, IN NO SPECIFIC ORDER (note, im not saying that these are the best EVER, but these are the best i have ever heard IN PERSON, on a V6)
Dual Flowmaster American Thunders, no x or H pipe, straight back OTA.-VERY deep, muscly sound, sounds nice at low rpms especially, however it can get a little poppy when revving
Dual Pypes Violators, no x or H pipe, straight back OTA.-VERY LOUD, roll your windows down and gun it, and you are gonna hear just how loud they are. Not as deep as flowmaster though. (p.s. this is what i have!)
Dual SLP loudmouths with x pipe-EXTREMELY deep and really loud (of course, muffler deletes) sounded pretty darn nice for a v6, however, muffler deletes are illegal in some if not most states.
Dual FRPP Borla Stingers with H pipe- very nice, smooth tone, pretty deep, and pretty darn loud, i beleive they are pretty expensive though, not sure on that one.
