Default Installed my GT take-off rear sway bar today

Instant ride difference noticed!

Why this isn't standard equipment is beyond me.

All Coupe owners:

If you haven't done this yet it should be your very next mod.

So what exactly does it do for the car?

that was my exact opinion too. i went a step further and did the gt frt bar, which is alot thicker and gt struts and shocks. its like a different car. in fact i just ordered another rear sway cause my g/f drove my car one time and wanted one on her car too.

It's like night and day handling wise. I just did rear sway and rear lowered springs.

Car tracks better and when you push it in a corner a lot less roll.

It certainly should be standard on all S197s!

So it helps in cornering? Does it help rigid road conditions where the car might hop or skip a bit in the rear?

I'm only running with it for a week and this is my first solid rear axle no-sway bar car that I've had in a long time. Used to RX-7's and 300ZX's. My RX-7 was like a go kart around the turns...

But so far I can say hitting a bump around a corner where it used to hop definitely more stable. For example a cloverleaf ramp onto the highway.

Hitting a bump going straight may actually be worse, may be transferring more of the bump from one wheel to the other.

Hopefully some others can comment.

Ok. So I probably would not want to do that. I don't do much high speed cornering. I use my car for a daily driver. The reason I asked about the bumps is, The roads around here are pretty torn up due to the winter season. So it may be counter productive in my case.

no, I can't believe it would be counter-productive. Eventually (we hope) they will repair the roads. It's worth it for ANY longer distance higway driving and turning into corners without having to slow way down to alleviate skipping and/or skidding.

If most of your driving is on slower main roads and short distances, than I would say it's probably not worth it to you..but hardly counter-productive.

it would be a great improvement( and is) on a dd. it makes a huge diff on curves driving 25 mph and its a huge diff on curves on the highway too. it takes away the weight shift on any curve, that makes you feel like its pulling you out of the lane. i think it makes the car safer with way better control. like stl said, it should be standard on these cars. i`m in the ozarks down here where theres hardly a straight flat road to be found any ware. ive put the sway bars to the test on these roads. i could see though where i lived in detroit, mostly straight flat roads, it wouldnt be needed all that much, but if i was still there, i would still do this mod. the cost is little and the benifit is huge.

I love the way mine handles now I put in the poly bushings when i did the swap stays very level in the turns almost no body lean, i wound say the ride is any stiffer like if you changed springs

this is the thread for me....just picked up a set front and rear off a gt for 80$! yes, 80$ for BOTH! what a deal eh? The guy i got em off of is a friend and he didnt realize the v6 didnt have em stock so he forgot a few brackets and all the bolts. i get those monday. tonight and tomorrow i plan on sanding them down really good and painting them blue, as long as thats possible any suggestions would be great. for my real questions tho, whats involved in installing these? iv never worked on anything under the car besides oil change and rear springs. im pretty sure i can tacle it if i just had some info and instruction for the wise ppl here at AFM. also, just in case...what are the bolt/washer sizes if for some reason he cant find them again? thanks a lot...sorry if i might have hijacked the thread a little

Index of /service_man/Chassis/Suspension

The rear bolts are (4)10mmx30mm (2)12mmx65mm [70mm will work].

Not sure about the front.
