Default 2007 V6 Mustang Gear Kit upgrade

I am looking into upgrading my Gear Kit for my Mustang and the Performance shop recommended going to a 4.10 in my Automatic Transimission. Is it worth it? Have any of you done this with your Mustang and if you have do you need to do a new tune on it to take full advantage of it?

At the top right hand side of the forums, there is a search feature. Its very easy to use. Just type in some key words, and hit search, and presto, you'll get 4,675,435,356,345 results on this exact issue.

But anyways, it will really help with acceleration, but it will really hurt your highway driving.

No tune necessary. Just need to recalibrate your speedometer.

Thank you all for the information. I have recently been told that by changing to the 4.10 gear I would be lossing a lot of top end speed. Like down from 120+ to like 85 mph is this true for any of you that has done this and secondly what tire would you go with for this type of change. I know I ask alot of questions in there but this is the only way I know to learn without messing up my Stang.

No the speed thing is not true. 120 isn't the top speed on the v6 model anyways, it is just the limited speed. In theory, a v6 can hit 140+ without a limiter. I know I could hit 120 in mine while still in fourth, so there is still the potential for more speed. You do lose top end speed, but it isn't that drastic. From what Ive heard, you should still be able to hit the limiter with 4.10s.

I have the 4.10's in mine (auto as well) and trust me, I will never find the top end of this pony. Dont worry about that. As far as freeway mileage goes, while I won't lie and say I get BETTER gas mileage, it hasn't been that bad of a difference. I would estimate maybe a 1.5 to 2 mpg loss. A fair trade off for the kick in the pants acceleration I get in return. Go for it. You won't be dissapointed.
