Default 2006 Mustang 70k + Mileage Issues -- Who's had some?

My mustang is an 06 V6 Automatic, taken care of and just hit 74,000 miles. I've never had an issue with the car until just recently. When the car shifts from safe, second to third or third to drive, it sputters/stutters for a second or two and then kicks into gear -- any ideas as to what's causing this? Or also, it seems that when the cars under load or more times then not, when my foots off the pedal and its decelerating on its own, i get a loud whining noise -- i figure it's the rearend but not sure what to look for?

Anyone else have any major problems with their mustang after you hit 70k miles?

I am not incredibly mechanically inclined but i'll try my best.

Since you are at 70k+ have you changed you transmission fluid yet?

If you have changed it, then is it low and require more fluid? I know that a hesitating transmission sometimes can be related to low fluid in the gears.

I'll leave the more technical stuff for the guru's

Agreed that the tranny missing might be your fluid. Go get it changed out or at least top it off and see if it persists.

The noise might be the rear end, but without being there inside the car there's no way any of us will be able to tell. Rear end service usually comes at 100k miles, IIRC, but if you've done some playing around (burnouts, heavy acceleration) throughout the life of your stang, then your rear may be getting noisy. Remember that there are bearings in there that will wear out eventually and need to be replaced.

When I moved from 3.31 gears to 3.73 gears at 68,000 miles my stockers were loud as all hell compared to the new gears (and the new gears were actually a used set!)

that was my first guess too. its low on fluid. have you had it serviced? they can do a flush, and replace 11.9 qts of fluid vs. dropping the pan( you shouldnt need a filter anyway) and replacing about 5 qts. if its real low, and you can see any signs of leaking around the pan or cooler, then you`ll have to get that fixed. my next guess would be the cable is not adjusted right. with your foot on the brake, try to turn over the motor in each gear. if the motor turns any where other than P and N, then the cable needs to be adjusted. the whining sounds like its in a lower gear than it should be. i cant hardly get any engine braking with mine, letting off the gas, unless i turn of O.D. or downshift it.

if you haven't had the tranny serviced yet go do it. an automatic trans should be flushed or serviced every 20,000 miles. so I will have to flush mine here in the next few months. you might also want to change out the gear oil in the rear diff, and take a look around in it to see how everything looks and to make sure that there aren't any metal shavings in the oil.

She's scheduled to go in this week to get the tranny fluid changed out, I assumed that's what was causing it to miss every time it shifts.

As for the rear, that's still up in the air as to what it could be -- I've done a few burn outs, power glides around corners, nothing major that could destroy the rear -- I cant imagine it could, not enough torque or hp?

Oh there's plenty of horsepower and torque in these cars to break things.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that even through normal use things are going to wear down and out. Although they may not break completely, wear will certainly change the way that they function which can cause new noises and things to pop up.

Just today I had to replace part of the thermostat housing for some reason it cracked in the back and was leaking out coolant. My mileage on my 05 is 72k. Besides that the car hesitates to go in reverse sometimes(automatic) its like it sits there and thinks about it.
