keep us updated i wrote a how to install shorty header fir the 197 V6 search my topics. it may be lost in the garage, but i think its still a single thread.

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...r-install.html

quick hint have a good set of jack stands.

when u get to the cat bolts ( that hold stock manifold on, they are cast in to the manifild, and go through a flange. CUT THEM OFF you will save a busted extention, a busted knuckle a few heated breaths and alot of time.

cut the one closest to the ground off. the top one will ratchet off with ease.

if u use a torch take out your O2 sensors first!

ALSO

When you do the headers, on the right side the coil mount wont bolt back in. remove coil bend out bracket, then it will bolt in. you’ll see how far you need to bend it

oil stick.

In the way, headers go behind it stock bolt does not fit through header flange, I left mine hang its ok

exhaust sensor, bring out * unhook near air inlet. * take out with old manifold.

Stick in vice, use monkey wrench to get off. It’s a pain.

To remove with the manifold you need to unbolt air box and the thingy mounted to the strut tower.

To get head bolts out, don’t bother with inverted torx

once manifold is removed. Use ratchet (13 mm) tighten down nut as far as you can go snug but don’t break it.
Ratchet another down in behind it get it tight

use 13 mm wrench to back out the nut next to the head, the bolt will turn.

The torx will break off.

To get the manifold off easy use a torch or air grinder, cut off bottom bolt, this will loosen the flange, and the top nut will ratchet off with super ease.

Now with the exhaust sensor tube, take the lower bung off. You will see that it will unbolt, so the female end will go to your new header.

Tighten it up so the tube is 1 inch from the header...

Bolt header on, tighten up there you go!
and yes my stainless headers turned funky colors

feel free to pm me

hey 05 horse sounds pretty complicated they way you wrote everything, you think you can shorten it up a little bit more for me. lol can't wait to do alll this to my car. about how much horses do you think that i will gain out of this. do the headers provide hp as well or what. well thanks for the info. post pics when everything is in.

its pretty straight forward.

remove teh 2 cat bolts that hold the stock manifolds on, i reccomend just cutting the bottom bolt off.....its on there...

then take a 13mm ratchet and remove all of the nuts holding the manifolds on.

the passenger side manifold will then jimmy off and come out.

the driver side you need to move the exaust return line from the top of the engine first. then repeat.

move the air box out of the way to get this manifold out

now u have head bolts sticking out of the engine that need to come out.
screw one nut down and get it tight
screwe another one down on top of it really tight... back the bottom one out with an open ended wrench. the top one wont turn makeing the hed bolt come out of the block.

it really helps if the motor is warm but youll have to start it before you remove bolts. i reccomend cutting cat bolt off, unscreweing the top bolt then starting the engine for 2 minutes or so.

allow to cool to touch then proceed.

now that all of the head bolts are out get your passenger header.

lay gasket on heder and use 2 pieced of masking tape to hold it on. dont tape it up well...just barely enough to hold gasket to the header

lay up to block and insert new bolts to hold it loose.

on drivers side, if your exaust ports on th headers are connected, youll have to move the dip stick out by unscrewing it from the block ( where teh screw is, not actully takeing it out ) and slideing headers down over them,

tape the gasket onand slide on and put some bolts in.

tighen down all bolts to reccomended ft lbs.

crawl under and put the lag bolts through the flange at the collecter and cat and tigten them down evenly

its pretty straight forward, the biggest things u need to know is to cut the bottom cat bolts, the top will come off easy after that.

my trick for getting the head bolts out

and above all....WEAR SAFTEY GLASSES, a piece beraks off or worse, your cutting that bolt off and some rust falls in your eye...not verry fun!

you can PM me if you have problems but its pretty easy...jsut time consumeing
ill say about a 3 hour install

headers on the 197V6 are a sinch!

they wont add much hp but they will help sound a bit.
