Question Negative effects of a tuner?

Are there any negative effects of a tuner? gear problems, engine problems, etc?

if you guys could post if you know of any problems, it would be greatly apreciated

While I can't say anything specific regarding a tuner and a newer Mustang. Tuners can bring to light design related issues within the PCM or at least that's what PHP says within their documentation for their Gryphon. I've got one of these in my F150 and it's an impressive device. Can't wait to see what it's like with custom tuning.

Hope this helps

yea only draw back is that with the new power from the tune you are always playing with the throttle and throttle response or maybe thats just me

The most common problem is (as usual) with the OPERATOR of the tuner, ie, the human element.

Tuners are powerful tools. Things like rev limits and speed limits can be raised - and these limits can save your bacon if your foot slips on the throttle or you miss a gear. Speed limits are there to prevent outrunning, for instance, your tires. A car that has been modified to exceed the performance of the OE manufacturer, but which is NOT fitted with upgraded tires to match can present a danger. Running 150mph on tires rated only to 120mph is a recipe for bad things.

Another danger presented by the capabilities of handheld tuners relates to their ability to, well, "tune". Altering the fuel/air mixture or spark advance WITHOUT any method of measuring the effects of these changes can mess up a car real fast. (Check a company called Innovate, who sells Wideband Oxygen Sensor arrays and other gear that CAN monitor the results).

So the problems I have seen are NOT with the tools, but with the users, and usually a heaping measure of ignorance.

ya, i guess it could cause pre-mature rear tire wear due to the uncontrolable feeling you get to want to mash the gas to the floorboards which could very well result in traffic tickets and fines. so rethinking this, i guess it could cause alot of problems

There may be evidence of premature engine wear as a result of the more agressive driving habbits the tunes induce... I.E. hard acceleration from a stop and flooring it while doing 65 mph. but the REALLY big drawback is the sore cheeks from the constant poo eatin grin they give you.

If you play with the adjustable options, especially fuel, spark & rev limit, and you don't know what you're doing, you can do serious damage.

if you load of the custom tunes into your car, you will be fine. they set the tunes up nice, and they know what they are doing when they write them. no worries
