Default 2005 Mustang V6-problems with temperature gauge

Lately my car has been having random HOT temperature readings. at first i thought it was the thermostat sticking so that was replaced and did fine for a few days. this morning i went to go get some gas (about 3 miles away) and everything was fine but when i started my car back up an left the station i noticed my sensor was about 3/4 of the way almost at H. so i pull over an cut the engine and it dosent even feel hot and when i start it back up them sensor stick in my dash spikes to H and keeps going it almost pointed straight down. has anyone had this problem? maybe a sensor im proably gonna replace it

how old is your fluid?

i THINK the sending unit is on top of the engine below the TB where the upper radiator hose goes in make sure its not corroded

i dont think the fluid is old. and the thermostat is rite below the throttle body. when i replaced the thermostat i had to take off the TB and remove the hose and it looked fine but im gonna go look at it real hard. i believe it the sensor cause my car has been off for hours and the temperature peg in my dash is not moving jus way past hot pointing down. but the car can start an run fine.

I took mine to the dealer they wanted 700.00 to replace the whole instrument cluster. I was just trying to buy the guages since I'm sure that's what wrong, but Ford doesn't list any parts breakdwon for the cluster. I'm going to take it apart this morning and try to recalibrate the guages. Look here fro more infor on the working of the instruments.

btw: My fuel guage does the same thing.

I don't know what the wiring harnes end looks like that plugs into the sensor but what I usually do to trouble shoot these type of problems is by grounding out the the wire that leads to the sensor. If you groung out the wire that goes to the sensor your gauge should peg to max and when you take the wire back of the ground it should fall back to the bottom. If it does this than it should be the sensor and not the gauge.
