Question MSD EGT/Boost and Cyberdyne Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge Install Help

Hey all,
I've got a Stage II Procharger for my 2006 V6 on the way but in the mean time I'm trying to install the gauges and sensors. Here is what I'm looking at:

MSD 4630 EGT and Boost gauge dual sweep:
- comes with a 4-BAR MAP sensor and Thermocouple/fitting.

Cyberdyne Air/Fuel Ratio gauge:
- supposedly splices off of the stock O2 sensor.

I'm fairly new at engine modifications and the instructions dont have much, so for installation I had a few questions.

1. Where does this MAP sensor plug in at? Its got a rubber fitting on it for a vacuum hose but I dont see a 'free' line to connect it to.

2. I'm running a dual exhaust with an H-pipe about mid section. Should I drill in and insert the compression fitting/thermocouple into the H portion of the pipe? Just wondering where I should put this if Im trying to read accurately off of both exhausts.

3. Splicing into the O2 sensor for the Air/Fuel ratio gauge, I'm wary of doing this. I dont want to tap another hole if I dont have to and put another sensor in there, but I dont want to mess up the signal or voltage with a bad connection.

4. Grounding, should the grounds be as close to the sensor as possible to reduce noise/ signal loss? Where is the best place to put them?

I really appreciate any help, I've never had to install sensors or splice into existing sensors before.

- Jon

why are wideband a/f gauges so expensive?

Wideband gauges cost more because they come with a wideband 02 sensor and control unit. They also require another bung to be welded on the exhaust for the sensor.
If your supercharging I would go with fuel pressure for the third

Narrow band gauges are useless ... I wouldn't waste the time or money.

ok i was thinking that too. so where can i take it for mounting the new sensor..any exhaust shop? brenspeed maybe?(if they do that stuff) i dont wanna end up payin a ton of money on it, but its pretty much a must so i might as well have it in before i s/c. im just goin with autometer dash pod and autometer ultra-lite gauges.

I had my wideband done by a friend who works at a place called trick trucks (and cars too) <<< actually what it is called lol, and they do lift kits, exhaust, stereo equipment but wont do like rear ends or turbos or anything and it took him an hour, charged me $30 but i dunno how much it would cost anyone else since he was my friend, just saying it shouldn't cost too much money if it only takes an hour

When it comes to fuel pressure as mentioned above, i have three gauges, boost, fuel pressure, wide band AFR, my fuel pressure has never worked because the adapter you have to buy for the fuel rail wasnt a snug fit, make sure if you go with fuel pressure you check under the hood and dont run it too hard after its been installed because i had a pool of fuel that was collecting and dripping next to the turbo

How to install a Vac-Boost Gauge by a complete N00b - Mustang Forums at StangNet

i think even though this is on a sn95 it would be useful for your boost gauge install

Thats an excellent write up, thanks. I read somewhere today that the V6 4.0L does NOT have a vacuum line or MAP sensor to T into? So how are we suppose to get a boost reading?

I really hope Im missing it somewhere, I spent $200 on this MSD gauge and its long past the point where I can return it, I thought most if not all cars had vacuum tubing and some form of a MAP sensor

How is everyone else hooking theirs up?

Do you have a super or turbocharger? If not, there is no boost to measure. If you do, what kit are you running?

You should be able to tap into the vacuum line that feeds the fuel regulator.

Ive got a supercharger (procharger stage II) kit on the way so I was trying to set up the gauges if possible.

Cool, thanks for the help guys, I'll have to dig around and see what I can find on tapping the fuel regulator. This haynes manual is crap, lol.

thats what im planning on doing too, getting my gauges set up first. you can still hook up your boost though...like stl said i thought it was your fuel reg line. ill do some more searching and post my sources for ya to read. also what kind of gauge did you get...is it a vac/boost gauge? or just boost? the vac boost gauge would be best cuz itll show vac w/o the s/c. and when you install that s/c itll show your boost so it can still be hooked up like normal.

Its a MSD 4630 Boost and EGT gauge, dual sweep for both. The other gauge I got is a Cyberdyne Air/Fuel Mix. Havnt tapped into the vacuum line yet but hopefully all goes well off the fuel reg.
