The service rep. at the local Ford dealer said my power steering fluid was dark and needed to be changed, as per the maintenance schedule for a 2005 'Stang. Also said this was noted by a technician while doing other work.

I've never seen this in a mantenace schedule, is this true or some B-S from the dealer for some unnecessary work ?

It should last between 50 and 100k miles. If it is dark, (brownish) it needs to be replaced.

i just did some of mine last week,57,000. i was getting some funny noises, very slight. all gone now

At 30k miles the trans.fluid should be changed, either auto.or 5 speed,also the rear diff. and the power steering. This is called preventive maintainance
