Ok guys i need some quick help right here... I was on craigslist for my area and someone is selling a x3 tuner that they previously used on their 2001..i have as u can tell a 07 automatic v6... They say it will work on any ford from 96-09 .... I do remember reading somethin in the past that once it was programmed to a certain car u could not interchange it???
If i can use it correctly please let me know so i can save an easy 200 for some other much needed mods
First of all, make sure he returned the vehicle he used it on back to stock. It has to be unlocked, find out if it has the cable included. It's the cable used for programming, or data-logging. If it's not included, there only around $15.00. You'll need it to check, if it's totally unlocked ready to use on any other vehicle. Have him take a photo, of the screen where you can see the info on the tuner. Tell him to plug it into his computer, that is if he has the cable if not have him plug it into any FORD vehicle it will work. Have him scroll down to device info, where it will tell you how many changes are left on the device, and will also tell you wether or not it is unlocked. If it says unused, 4 changes left or however many changes there are left your all set. If it says aftermarket, then he never returned it to stock and the device is locked. If the device is locked, walk away from the deal. Reason why, SCT is the only one who can unlock it for you. The fee for SCT to unlock the device, is $150.00 no sh*t that's for real. If it's unlocked, but just not ready to tune your vehicle any SCT Dealer or anyone with SCT Advantage 3 software can unlock that part of it for you. But tell him, you want to see a photo of the screen with the device info to verify it's unlocked, Mike. SCT Tuner.
Hey I don't want to see the kid get screwed, and that's the only way to verify if it's unlocked or not. I've seen too many scammers on craigslist, and on eBay set the kid straight and he won't get screwed. hey why cant i download livelink any more? i wanna data log. i got it on my desktop. but i cant get it on any 3 of my laptops from the sct site. do u know anything about how to fix that?

Yes it will work just fine. You will need to get tunes for your vehicle though.
