Default 2007 Mustang V6-Gas guage problems

Recently purchased a 2007 Mustang V6...gas guage was on 3/4
full when I got it. It got down to 1/4 tank and I filled it up until
gas hose stopped, drove away from gas station and guage was
reading 3/4 again for a full tank of gas...Called dealer and he
wants me to bring it in and he will replace the gas guage, taking
the dash apart...Do you guys think it is the guage or the tank
sending unit? Car only has 42K miles on it...and, I only put in 8
gallons of gas to fill it up..
Thanks

these cars are hard to pump gas into. if you hold the nozzle sideways it wont ckick off early. thats all that happened.

you could take it back in and say there is a tsb on the gas tank filling issue. some people got new tanks, some had the filler hose shortened, some it helped, some it didnt. some people hold the gas nozzle upside down, or just pump slow. it wont take it full blast from the nozzle. theres been a bunch of posts on this over time, you might find some by doing a search in here. its a issue somewhat, but not that big of a deal really. just fill it slow. mine works good holding the nozzle to one side. there is nothing wrong with your guage more than likely. just thought i would add a little to my responce

Default gas guage problems

You guys are certainly correct about the gas tank design fault.
Here is a "pirate' fix where the author claims the fuel filter is
the problem-
05 Mustang Tank

Also Lemon Law information-

Ford Mustang Fuel Tank Problems - Lemon Law Center San Diego

I see where you mean some people get satisfied by Ford fixing the problem and some don't...Bad design on the fuel tank..

You know, it's funny that I'll just run into a string of incidents when gas will be difficult to pump and then there will be long stretches of time when I won't have a problem at all. But yeah, when those difficult times come along, I just put the pump up to the side and that takes care of the problem. If you actually ever have any problems with the fuel gauge being erratic, just put a bottle of Chevron "Techron" fuel system cleaner in your tank. That's actually what the Ford dealers will do if you tell them you have an erratic fuel gauge.

Default Thanks guys

Well the dealer wanted to replace the gas guage..So today I went
back to the gas pump and tried filling it slowly and pulling the
gas nozzle partially out of the tank for air...and, damm if I didn,t
get a full tank! This forum is worth its weight in gold with all the
expertise and 'been there done that" hands on...most all problems
have been experienced by members...Thanks for all the help.
Now I don't know if i shold even approach Ford service dept about
the problem...

Glad it seemed to work out for you but don't be surprised if it happens again. Since I bought my car the gas gauage has been a thorn in my side, I've had it in to the dealer twice now and it still sometimes gives me a false reading. Usually happens when it's cold/wet outside, I think there's a loose connection or something that expands and contracts, I'll start the car and the gauge will drop to empty then slowly work it's way up. Other times I'll see the low fuel alarm come on when there's like 1/3 of gas in the tank (I think that display only updates when I add gas to the tank). Doesn't happen enough to drive me crazy but it's an issue just the same.

There is also a problem with certain gas. Some have a high sulphur content causing the gas gauge to go wacky. it has happened to me a couple of times and just disapeared.

I have problems after racing hard on our roadcourse it reads screwy for a little while. I have had fueling problems since day one mine is an '06 but just wait for it to burp and then it will finish filling up there is an air bubble that forms in the line at half a tank about 7 gallons from empty.

Default V6 gas guage problems

Has same problem, Ford tsb say not to change sending unit. Try different types os gas and your problem will go away.

Yeah i got the same problem, but holding the nozzle sideways seems to work really well. I actually spilled gas everywhere when I first tried that. I was used to putting just that little bit extra every time it shut off, but when you hold the nozzle sideways full is full
