Default 2006 4.0 True Dual mix n match--installation question

Hello all!

I've been reading all about mods and specifically true dual exhaust on 4.0's on the forum. I think I decided I want to mod my 'stang in this order: true dual (open up exhaust before adding air with CAI), then CAI, then tune...

I love the sound of Flowmaster American Thunders (thx for all the sound clips!!) and I was dead set on getting one and only one for my 4.0...until I did my oil last weekend and checked out my exhaust! It seems a crime to funnel both exhausts into a y-pipe, yep, it's coming out!

So here is my scenario: I was shopping online for true dual kits, I noticed the Pypes True Dual Catback w/X-pipe, which goes for a modest $450 @ summit racing...Very sexy getup but I want to use the Flowmaster mufflers! Has anybody sucessfully used these mufflers with a x-pipe setup? Maybe pieced together? What works and what doesn't?

Any advice or installation pointers would be greatly appreciated! I plan on doing this myself btw, I have a set of 12,000lb. rhino ramps that got my front end pretty nicely up to change oil, will I need to lift my car up to do the whole deal?

Thanks fellas!

-LB

wally05 had a Pypes catback system with an X pipe and he ran it with Flowmaster American Thunders on his v6 mustang. As far as I know there was no custom fabrication involved to make the parts work together.

You should know how to weld if you're going to install something like this. I also wouldn't use Flowmasters with an X pipe because you're probably going to end up with a pretty raspy sound. Magnaflow or Borla will give you more of a deep sound and don't accentuate the nuances of exhaust as much as Flowmasters do and may be better suited for X pipe applications.

i have magnaflow duals with a custom h pipe and i dont get the raspy tone at all

you can keep you pypes with flow masters just throw a h pipe instead of the x and you should be able to rid the set up of the raspy sound i got my h pipe from jegs.com for 52 bucks

I was saying that X pipes and Flowmasters on their own are pretty raspy so I wouldn't put them together unless thats really the sound you're going for.

H pipes typically give a more mellow sound and Magnaflows are the same way.

Thanks!!

Hey Black05Pony,I noticed that you have the single Flowmaster. How does that work for you? Did you notice any performance boost by itself, or with a CAI/Tune? How do you like the sound?

i went with the same plan, i pc`d the exaust first, i went stainless jba h pipe and over axles,gt muffs, then i got the demon coil and wires, then the cai/tunes. i had to get the car up in the air pretty high on stands to swing the h pipe into place after cutting the y pipe.
