Hey guys, My mother has an 2007, V6 Manual transmission . It is now at the dealership for a 2nd gear issue.

Right now it is intermittent , when she downshifts form 3rd to 2nd it will sometimes not go into 2nd. Its like it just doesn't want to. It will usually NOT grind when this happens but has on occasion.

The trans as already been replaced once due to this problem and now it is starting again. It starts intermittent then begins getting worse and worse. The dealer claims nothing is wrong but warranty is nearing its end so i think they are playing their game.

does anyone know what this problem is and is it common with this Trans.

well, how fast was she going? it dont wanna go in till certin speeds on any of em ive tried.

got the same problem! i was thinking its my shoft throw but now im kinda worried..i might put the stock back in and take it to the dealer!

Yeah, I'm no mechanic or close to one, but like he said, mine won't go in to second or first until I'm down to a slow enough speed.

Don't let the dealer tell you that the problem is normal. It's not. If you need to go as far as writing a letter to Ford, go ahead and do that. Downshifting from 3rd to 2nd shouldn't be a problem unless you are spinning to many rpm in 3rd. I've never had this problem on my car. The only one that should be difficult is the 2nd to 1st shift. Once in a rare while I'll have the 2nd to 3rd brick wall and I used to have a problem with the 3rd to 5th shift (it would grind and clunk), but I just stopped doing that.
You should be able to spin up around 3500rpm in 3rd gear and shift into 2nd gear no problem.

yea today i couldent hardly get my shifter out of R... i was like what the heck?

she isnt shifting too early / RPMs too high , she has been driving manual trans since she was a kid. (learned on my dads "69 camaro SS ) And as i said in my first post replacing the original Trans fixed the issue but now it is starting in this trans.

Sounds like this is common on this Trans though.
