I installed my K&N CAI, and I will admit that I didn't follow all the instructions. Specifically I didn't disconnect the battery. I did a little research and found a thread where someone said the disconnect was necessary to clear the learned fuel mapping of the PCM. I went back and disconnected te negative lead for about 30 seconds.
My question is specifically if 30-45 seconds is enough or should it be disconnected longer?
To really reset the computer, typically you should leave the battery unpluged over night. However, I do not believe it is necessary to unplug for the cai. The reason the instructions say to unplug is simply for your safety.

That is a good point. They say to unplug it regardless what you do under the hood.

guys i work for a ford dealership and my best friend is the mustang guru around here. to reset the pcm. simply undo both cables. hold one in the left hand and the other in the right hand and touch them to gether to discharge any voltage left in the pcm. done. reconnect. suggestion ware gloves for your safety. it will not hurt the pcm, it just drains it. matter of a fact that is the way that we get the gt500 to unlock boost. its disabled from the factory. after you reconnect and start the car, drive it for about 5-10 miles and floor it at least 3 times. that will allow the computer to compensate for the increased air flow at all throttle positons.
now since you are using a k&n, depending on how the car is going to react. you may need to tune. suggest sct
