What upgrades should I make to my 2006 Mustang v6 to get the best results?
Hi, I am new to the forums and I have a question. I just recently bought a 2006 v6 Mustang with pony package and I plan on doing upgrades in the near future. I have about a $1000 max spending limit to throw into my car. In what order should I buy the upgrades for my car and with all the upgrades how much HP should I expect to see?
The only thing that I put into it so far is a throttle body spacer and a Pypes Street-Pro axle back muffler.
anyway, the spacer does nothing, and the muffler gets you about 10 rwhp (i bought both, immediately threw both away, i went true duals instead, but duals wont get you anymore power over a single pypes muffler)
in my opinion, if i had 1000 dollars to spend i would spend it in 2 places
americanmuscle.com, go buy a tuner/cai combo for about 500
then, go to a reputable speed shop in your area and get 3.73 or 4.10 gears with a posi lok.
gears are hands down my favorite mod i have done so far, HUUUUGE difference, as you can see i went 4.10

BBK cai ($200) that does not require a tune. (save myself the $300).
BBK Shorty Headers. ($270)
3.73 Gears. ($160)
Lok limited slip differential. ($210)
I just wanted to see what you guys would say and see if I was heading in the right direction.

The save yourself 300 dollars part will cost you a lot of power.
Get a C&L or JLT CAI with a tuner and tunes from bamachips or brenspeed. This will wake up your care, get rid of speed and rev limiters and will get you the most out of your CAI and future tunes. I don't know if headers are worth the money, probably not. If you are going to get gears and tloc, might as well get a whole new rear end, from what I understand it is better and cheaper in the long run (the down side it will cost you pretty much your whole budget.
You can also get a coil pack and wires. They will be around 180 together and 05horse love them. It will make the acceleration a lot better and burn the fuel better.
And you can get yourself some GT take-off mufflers. Cost 50-100 bucks for both and they are just as good as any aftermarket muffler. The only noticeable difference between any of the mufflers is the sound (btw the V6 stock muffler is crap)

Check out bamachips.com. They have a C&L intake/ SCT X-Cal combo. Maybe check into some lowering springs. Eibach's pro kit is nice. It'd give you better handling and a more aggressive stance. The combo and the springs would be about $850-900. Then, if you didn't mind going a little over budget a Screamin Demon coil with Livewires is $180.
Hands down, I say the best mod and best bang for my bucks so far...... has been my 8.8 gt takeoff rear end with 4.10 gears. The CAI and tune were cool, and noticable, but not near the difference in driving fun and feel as the rear end was. When you quote for the gears and t-loc, consider install costs (usually around $3-400 bucks) in the end, it cost me less to buy the 8.8 allready done, and install the whole rear end, than it would have for me to have the 7.5 built. You could spend your whole 1k on the rear end, but in the end, it will be the BEST first mod you could have chosen with your buget. You can allways to other things as the smaller change comes available, but if you have a grand RIGHT NOW, then I say do the rear end.
headers wont do anything, and getting a CAI without a tune is absolutely pointless, and harmful to your engine.
besides, if u get 3.73's ur gonna need a tuner so you speedo is correctly calibrated
my advice still stands, work on your rear end, upgrade those gears and get a t lok (maybe even go 8.8) then see where you are at economically, and if you cant afford the CAI/tuner combo, just buy the tuner to recalibrate that speedo, and get a new tune (even just a new tune witout a CAI will add quite a few ponies)

Thanks for all your replies. I guess I'm going to order a JLT CAI with SCT SF3 Custom tuner combo and I'm going to forget the headers untill a later date.
I was wondering, could I bring my car into a ford dealership and have them tune it? Would I save money if they could do it there and if they could how much would they charge?

good choice, i like my jlt and the sct tuner is cool. i dont understand what you want the ford dealer to do. you can install the cai and program the tune into your car very easy.

some things were just meant to be..
05 V6 auto, torch red, basic, a few mods
06 V6 stick, vista, premium (g/f`s car)
What I was asking is if I just buy the cai and gears would a ford dealer tune it for me or would I be better off just buying the cai with the tuner and doing the tune myself?

I don't think they will tune it for you. The way the tunes were designed was with a car on a dyno and testing. And Ford dealership really don't like mods, from what I hear.

if you order a tuner/CAI combo from americanmuscle.com they will write a custom tune for you, but it wont be that great. if you really want a good tune call bamachips, brenspeed, or another tuning company, they will send you an email and you upload that onto your tuner, and then you just plug it into your car, and follow the instructions, simple as pie
