Erm, maybe I'm missing something here, but...

260 miles / 14 gallons = 18.6 mpg

By contrast, 14 gallons x 21 mpg = 294 miles

I do that on those long highway trips as well. The best I've ever done is 29 mpg, though I think 27 is a more realistic average out there. So 27 mpg X my 16 gallon tank = 432 miles. Of course, only a fool would assume this and drive into the 400's before filling up again.

I don't know how many times I've dipped below 25 mpg (400 even), but it's a single digit number. I would guess 3 times max in the 6 months I've had the car. My typical city + highway stuff to work and such seems to yield 25 or 26 each time (400 or 416).

Those 24 mpg tanks piss me off, though.

This is a stock auto at 30k.

Rake..... You have NEVER had your pedal to the floor have you my friend? Poor guy. You shoulda bought a prius WTH is the point if you dont goose her at least once (or five) times a day? Mustangs were meant to be flogged in front of screaming ladies. Otherwise it just isn't a mustang. Nice job on the mpg's though. I am sure I don't see those kind of numbers, but almost every chance I get to open her up, even for just a few seconds, I take it. sooooo seems worth it to me for the amount of grin factor I get per mile. Enjoy your econobox mustang.. but I sure hope that someday you come to the dark side and let er rip. You will be pleased as puddin. I promise.

if you get gears, you're not going to see like a huge mpg drop. i believe it will be about 1-2 mpg drop. i don't think the mpg drop is a big deal for the difference it will make. i read a post in the 2005+ GT section and someone installed 4.10's and only dropped 1 mpg. but if you're a daily driver go 3.73s. you're still going to feel a big difference.

ok i know this is gonna sound dumb but how big is the tank in the 4.0 mustang?? mine has never gona beyond 13 glalons! it normally stops at like 12.5 when i fill it up- i heard tonight that it is 16 gallons! wtf??
cuz if it is 12.5 that would be awesome.... i went 137 miles on 3/8s of a tank of gas, so thats 33.33 mpg i think im way off tho, and that was crusing at 80-95 on the freeway nonstop with 4.10s i normally can i 80 miles on a quarter tank but thats stops in traffic and city driving

Perhaps your gas gauge is reading empty way too early? I know mine does it on occasion, causing a panic fill up only to find out I had plenty of gas left.

You are exactly right. The 4:10s make a difference and while they dont't generate more HP, you should br able to a least run with and possibly beat a stock GT from 0-60. To me the mileage loss is negligible. If your car is an automatic it's a match made in heaven.

I have 4.10s and have been very happy. I get anywhere from 19 to 26 mpg. I made a thread about this called project MPG with 4.10s. Took some screenshots of my iPhone logging my milage. The 4.10s make the car much more beastly. I can't comment on the 3.73s. From what I hear they are a good gear, but not as much fun as 4.10. Give and take I suppose. Is accelerating just a little bit faster worth throwing out the extra couple mpg? For me it is.
