The first time I went to the races was last year before my car was supercharged and it's getting more power all the time. I'm starting to wonder about the safety of a non-locking diff when putting upwards of 350 horsepower into it, specifically the balancing of the power to the wheels.
One image that stuck in my mind during that first drag night was of a supercharged Charger SRT8 making it half way down the track, hitting a pebble or something, then spinning around 4 times, narrowly missing the wall, before finally coming to a stop.
I know the Charger is an entirely different animal than a Mustang but it still got me thinking about that differential. I can often feel the car pulling to one side during braking and so I'm worried the car might try to spin out during a drag race. Am I just being paranoid? I do plan to upgrade to a locker at some point but it'll be a while.

If you have an open differential right now, I would suggest upgrading to a GT 8.8 rear end. In the long run its probably more worth it for you because you have a supercharger, and that rear end won't self destruct with the power you're putting down. On top of that you can beat the 8.8 up a lot more than even a built 7.5 . If you want to you can check out this website : V6 Mustang Stuff | V6 Mustang Performance Parts and Accessories
Right on their front page they have 8.8 rear end and axle assemblies. I know they aren't cheap, but its an investment that will be worth it down the road.

Yeah it would be nice but something like that would cost a fortune to ship over the border, then there's the exchange rate to consider. If I can find a reasonable deal from one of the local salvage yards then maybe. My plan lately has been to get a well built Detroit locker for the 7.5 and keep the stock gears (for mileage). I'll keep an eye out for 8.8s.

how did you get 350 HP from your engine???? I have the supercharger and that number is in my dreams....

K first I meant crank horsepower, and I'm not quite at that level yet but in a few weeks I'm upping the boost to 12 PSI and installing W/M injection, that should get me there.

Definitely stay away from drag radials and slicks or you'll bust that 7.5 in no time.
Other than that your open differential is just making it harder for you to hook up, but not necessarily dangerous to drive. You'll find that a limited slip differential or a detroit locker will help you hook up at higher rpms, although your 7.5 isn't going to like those high rpm launches as much as with the open diff.

gotta build it if you want performance. open diff wont get you anywhere....especially if u plan on big performance upgrades later. i went with the 8.8 takeoff from newtakeoffs and couldnt be happier. 2 hour install with hand tools...works great. yea it cost me 2-300 extra...but iv got a stronger axle now that i know ill never be able to push enough to snap. look into it...i strongly suggest it
