Time to swap out my stock V6 muffler as I've blown a baffle. I was considering a GT RH muffler (used) as a replacement. I can however get a GT500 RH Muffler (used) instead, faster. Question is >>>> Is the GT500 stock muffler quieter or louder than the GT stock muffler???? I want the sound from a GT muffler as it sounds much better than the V6 stock muffler. If the GT500 stock muffler IS louder than is fine for me, I just don't to go quieter than the GT.

From what i read around the forum is that the gt500 has that sound because of the big engine it has. Since the GT has the closer engine it might be more beneficial to get that one. I could be wrong but thats just my understanding.

I saw that, but it looked like it was about duals & I'm just replacing ONE muffler & keeping mine as single exhaust. Thanx for the info though.

from what i understand the gt and gt500 have same mufflers. Now maybe gt500kr has better ones that i do not know. ask the person for the serial number that is on the muffler and cross check it with gt.

According to Ford the GT & GT500 have different mufflers by Part Number. Now this can mean a small difference between them to cause a p/n change. With that said.....I bought the GT500 muffler & installed it tonight. It sounds GREAT! Nice low rumble as compared to the quiet V6 stock muffler. Here's both mufflers side-by-side. GT500 muffler is on left, stock V6 muffler on right... The stock V6 muffler has an EXTRA hanger on the inlet which you should remove & discard.

I just recently installed the GT muffler. And all I can say is WoW! I guess any muffler is better than the stock one. My friend(owns a slobalt) was behind me at... 1 a.m. --> going to dennys. And I revved my engine at the red light, he was like "omg that sounds so sweet!". So yea gt/gt500 doesnt matter, they all sound better lol.
Don't know, as I bought it used from a Ford Dealer as a take off. I paid $50.00 Cdn for it too.

Here's the number on the bottom of the GT500 Muffler >>>>> F1-7991-A

Or straight pipes. I am still pretty sure they are the same or at least very similar.
BTW BlackPony are you sure they are from a GT and not GT500? And if so do you know if manual or auto? And could you take a look at the number on them?
Either one will sound great. You'll never replicate the growl of a GT500 from your 4.0, but the GT/GT500 will give you a nice mellow tone - more pleasing than any aftermarket muffler and more cost efficient. I'd stay away from the flowmasters. On our 4.o they make your car sound like a pickup truck with a hole in the muffler. BTW, there is none of the unpleasant drone with the GT takeoff - food for thought and good luck!~
