HELP!!! Serious Electrical Issues after Installing Foglights!
Seriously need some help here! I installed a new grill with stock GT foglights (not hid) today. I wired them into my existing aftermarket small fogs in my bottom bumper. These were aftermarket from the dealer and work with a stock foglight switch inside. Everything worked fine for 5 mins. I backed the car out of the garage and when I got out I noticed the foglights in the bumper and grill both had gone out. I assumed i blew a fuse so i got out the manual and started looking at the fuse. Since my v6 did not have stock foglights there was no fuse in the spot for "foglight" so i started pulling fuses to see which had blown.
Well....now the front driver headlight does not work on low beam.. but it will work on highbeam. The front passenger parking light will not work but it will work when you turn the turn signal on. The passenger side brake light will not work, but standard light will. All other electrical things work, door locks, ac, radio, trunk, top, etc.
I got a fuse tester and tested all the fuses under the hood and inside panel.. ALL are showing fine. Any ideas on what is going on here?? I disconnected the foglights and still same issue. The guy at the auto store said it wasn't the relays (only things I couldn't test) bc everything else was working.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I'm not sure... I'm assuming if it did, it would be in one of the slots labeled "unused" ? in the fuse box.

Good question, is there anyway you can trace the wire?
It looks like some of the headlight wiring goes through the smart junction box (SJB). It's located in the passenger side kick panel. Ford Service Manuals - Wiring Diagrams

You may have fried the smart junction box. If you disconnect the new lights do any of the other lights work again. You are aware that there are 2 fuseboxes... one under the hood and one inside the car in pass side footwell. (smart junction box)

Yeah, I checked all the fuses in both... all are good. I disconnected the lights and took it back to stock and still have the same issues

Aftermarket lights almost always come with a relay that is to be mounted on the inner fender, and instructions to NOT run through any factory relays. If your dealer installed the A/M lights correctly, then maybe there is something in there with the brand name of the lights on it about the size of a zippo lighter with a puddle of melted plastic under it. If this is the case, then the relay probably couldn't handle the extra load of 4 lights. The relay contacts may be welded together. There has to be at least one blown fuse or toasted relay in there somewhere.

Reason: Cuz I can never leave well enough alone.
In order for us to help without looking at the car, we really need to know how the lights were installed.
Did you install them?
Did a dealer (or someone you know) install them?
Did you/they use an aftermarket wiring kit?
What did you use as a power and remote (switched) source for them?
Are they wired into your current headlight system through the switch?
If I had to guess, based on your current situation and the info you've given us so far, I'd say that your fogs were probably wired into your stock headlights either at the switch or spliced in somewhere under the hood.
Now relays have voltage and amperage ratings just like fuses do and will absolutely go bad, eventually, if you exceed those ratings. The relays that are installed in stock formation are rated for the load of the stock headlights, as well as the gauge of wire that is used, in order to protect the wire from burning up.
If you added an extra wiring circuit (or two in your case) to that stock relay it would probably be well overloaded and burn up. This would also cause your stock lights to malfunction even when the system is returned to just the stock headlights.
Its also worth noting that all aftermarket fog light harnesses come with both a relay and a fuse of their own. Unless whomever installed them made their own harness, its very likely that there is a fuse and a relay for them somewhere in the car.
With that having been said, i'd trace my wires back from the first set of aftermarket lights and look for relays/fuses along the way. Find out where they get power from and then check any and all fuses you find. Then if you're still having problems go pull your stock headlight relay(s) and replace them. Leave the car in stock form while you do this. Once you have all the stock stuff working right again then you can think about adding the other lights back in, but come back here and ask for a diagram before you install them again.

Thanks,
I really appreciate the time and help. I installed them myself and just spliced into the foglights when I installed them. I just assumed it would work as I didn't mind both sets being on when I turned the lights on, etc... guess I made a critical error! lol. I'll follow your advice and see if I can't find the problem.

Ok... turned out to be a fried Smart Junction Box.. took a week to get a replacement and she's finally back to normal today. I'm reading up on some posts on how to install a relay, etc.. and may retry this again but considering my last attempt- im a little leary. Anyone know any good install places that would wire these up for me in Charlotte NC?
