Default 2008 Mustang : Daytime running headlamps

I recently got my 2008 mustang, and noticed that the only time the headlights are not on is when the car's ignition is off and the key is out. I've noticed that a lot of other Mustangs of the 2005+ body type drive around with their headlights off. Is there an easy way to disengage the daytime running headlights?

That's a dealer option so take it to them and get it removed. Also, you get an insurance discount for daytime running lights so if you disable that option you lose the discount.

I thought stangs had manual headlight controls.

They do, but a dealer installed option is to have the headlights on at all times, but you still can use the switch.

Actually daytime running light is a Canadian law and all of the cars must have them, even the one imported from US to Canada should go through inspection and install daytime running light in order to pass inspection. So it is possible your dealer did the installation or your car assembled in Canada and shipped to US.
FYI when the hand brake is up the lights will be off even if your car is running, once you release handbrake the lights will go on and stay on

Wow that's interesting... I never knew that!

A lot of people mod their cars to HAVE DRLs... Out of curiosity, why do you want them gone? Longer bulb life?

I dunno, I just don't like the way they look. It's hard to describe.
Is there a quick way to fix them myself, like pulling a fuse or something? cause I know the dealer is going to charge me at least $100 to disengage them.

when i got my gt, the head lamps were on just like yours.the dealer(not the factory) had there own alarm added to it.well that was stupid sence mine had the security option already on it. there crappy alarm was hooked up to the back of the headlight switch.so i took out that pos alarm(took all of ten min.) and now the head light switch works like it should.so it might be a add on alarm.

I'm going to piggy back this post with a tag on question.

If your car has the DRL's (like mine has), and you want to upgrade to HID's isn't that gonna cause the HID's to get very hot if they are on during the day while you are driving around?

I want the HID's so the lights will be brighter at night, but at the same time, I don't want them on during the day because of the DRL option.

Can anyone elaborate on this particular situation?

This is dumb.. I took it to the dealer, and they said they can't disconnect them. I refuse to believe that is true.

Mine does, too!

I would like a switch to turn it off sometimes. Hope there is a way we could do something about it. I agree there should be a way so I will ask a mechanic who I know and see if he knows a way around.

Is '08 stang the only year it has auto lights on w/out switch?
