Can you help an old timer out? I have a 2005 Mustang with about 115,000 miles on it. I'd like to give it a tune up myself, the shop I normally deal with wants $300 to do it. I don't want to spend alot of cash, cause things aren't too good in Michigan and money is tight right now. Can you guys and gals recommend plugs, wires, etc. I don't need to hop it up, it's just my back and forth to work car and don't want to ruin/harm my gas milage. I do have a K&N air filter which I plan to clean. Any help for a guy who's last tune up was a car with Points and a carb, (yes I'm that old!).
Thanks,
Snowdoggie

Change the plugs, use E3 plugs for better MPH and more HP, plug wires and fuel filter. Pull the throttle body and clean it up. If you haven't already, change transmission and rear end fluid. Change the cabin filter located behind passenger side cowl.
Don't know what the dealer would do for $300, but I bet it isn't as much as I mentioned above.

i remember carbs and points too.(52) and i`m a old michigander myself thats good advise from jayberge. factory wires and even plugs would be fine. you might want to also change your power steering fluid, brake fluid, new coolant, radiator cap, your due for hoses and check yours out, maybe a belt. check the shocks and break pads too. all those things are standard maintenance.

Do you guys have brands that are better then others? Ya know, Bosch vs Champion (are they still around?) vs FoMoCo.
Thanks,

If you are talking plugs, get the E3 plugs. Horsepower on Spike channel dynoed the E3 plugs, gained 5 HP and less fuel consumption then Bosch Platinum.
32 MPG that's better then me! Thanks for the info Jayberge.
Who makes those E3s? Anybody have any ideas on good set of spark plug wires? I thought I read about some hot new wire/coil system that was good. I did a search but couldn't find anything.
Thanks to all,
Snowdoggie

its the live wire and screaming demon coils. it will cost about 160-170 after tax. the advantage is a slightly better throttle response and a smother idle and acceleration.
not sure what OEM parts cost, but just normal after market stuff will probably cost about 80-100 for both the wires and coils. it depends on where you go
